Relaxing day planning things

Preparing my services for my new investments and entertaining the Tomblins, who had come to stay for a neighbourhood party

A little lay in and chance to skim through the papers before Daniel made the drinks and all up for a cereal and toast breakfast. Off all together to St Neots and I parked the car for once at The Shrubbery and let the girls go off to shop in the rain whilst I completed application forms and covering letters for Prestel, Datalex and the Hoare & Gavett private account Prestel service ‘Citiservice.’ Then to collect my bank statement from Barclays and post my letters at the Post Office before walking up to the Newsagents to meet the family. The rain was pouring down and I stopped off at Barrets to buy a new brown tweed hat to keep my head dry. Before finding the family I bought a new Parker propelling pencil and pen refill and, later, a Financial Times.

From Monday, my Little Paxton Newsagents will start delivering the FT daily and I will then get reliable closing prices each day. Together back to the car and off via the Barford Power Station route to Tempsford and down the A1 to The Happy Eater. For once we left Daniella in the car as it was not too hot and went in for lunch without her. After lunch, to the St Neots Ford Motor Car Dealer for car details but, being closed, home for an afternoon’s view of the BBC TV Olympics and spectacular gymnastics on the parallel bars, rings and pommel horse. A tea of prawns, raspberries and doughnuts and then more Olympics whilst waiting for the Tomblin family to arrive. A foul night of lashing rain and, whilst welcome and essential for the garden and water supplies, most uncomfortable to be out in. Eventually we braved the night and arrived at the Village Hall to find John, Brenda, David and Becky already arrived. A whole host of people including Stella and Eddy’s relatives, friends and neighbours which they had done well to bring together in an ambitious evening of free music, food and drink. All ages present and an awkward loud mid-evening as the kids screamed and shouted in tumbles on the dancing floor. Then the whole company to dance after food served. Dan and Debbie were thrilled to spend the evening with David and Rebecca Tomblin and after, the Tomblins settled down in our old house, 39 Gordon Road, lent to them for the occasion.
