Last minute preparations for tomorrow’s Comart sale Completion before home tired and weary with my cold and chest infection as STC takes over ICL

Clearing my things from Grove HouseMy last working day and many last minute preparations with the majority of the morning spent on finalising things for tomorrow’s completion and talking to Nigel Smith about yesterday’s events. An appointment and meeting with Alan Frazer, Chairman of GEC Computers and UK ITO, and opportunity to hold forth on my news on Industry Policy and Information Technology. Then to get June Hamilton across to review the company admin preparation and brief her on the remainder that needed doing. A hasty sandwich brought back by Derek Weatherby and then to the Grove House meeting room to prepare to start a Group Review Meeting.

News from Geoff Lynch on his arrival of the opportunistic takeover bid for ICL by STC. I have grave reservations about the 35% holding and 3 Directors of ITT. Down to business and to take Derek Weatherby’s reports of the new Comart Group Budgets totalling £950K. Then to brief the Directors on the arrangements and order of events for tomorrow and after to hold an open forum. Amongst the points of concern for their mutual and future action were the 13 month accountancy period, the centralising of Directors Payroll, the changing of second half budget arrangements and other aspects of the group administration. I shared concern for the future of Ken Walker and the trusteeships of the Profit Sharing and Pension Schemes.

Then adjourned and I receive June Hamilton again with the last wave of administration details. The evening completing the signing, copying and insertion of all papers and details in the Statutory Books, the completion of my June and July expenses, and the emptying of my office cabinets and desk.

Then I load up the car at 10.00pm and drive home. Home to a tired and weary late evening, experiencing discomfort and breathing difficulties with my cold, throat and chest infection. Awake during the night to find relief between the stuffiness and discomfort.
