Buying bedding plants at auction for The Hayling View gardens today

A busy morning in my office and then time in the garden with Pete and to take him to Shaw’s auction in St Neots to buy bedding plants in the auction. I then took Debbie horse-riding, dropped into the Meyer’s and then into Moira’s who will take my Focus copy to Cambridge for printing during the weekend. Gorbachev plans to visit the UK soon, the UK/Iran talks are adjourned and the Arab Summit funds the PLO for its uprising.

Awoke quite early this morning and relaxed with my morning tea. Diana was quite refreshed as well, after going to bed in the spare room to escape my disturbance last night. I was a bit busy in my office this morning. I set down to do my backlog of bill paying after reading the papers. Then I made more calls to initiate an insurance claim for my car repairs, declined further interest in the Bedfordshire land and chased my accountant on my long overdue tax rebates. I had quite a bit of mail this morning and, in particular, the agenda for my Economic Development meeting and others, which was quite interesting. Then Pete arrived, and I went out to see him and found my second mole victim in a trap, which was good news. I took Pete into Shaw’s auction, St Neots, to see the bedding plant trays and he helped me pick out the types that we needed for the garden.

I then dropped him back, had lunch, and returned to buy them in the auction. I bought  2 x boxes 6 Dahlias for £2.88, 2 x boxes Begonia for £4.50, 1 x box Salvia for £1.50, 1 x box Petunia for £1.50, 3 x boxes of Marigolds for£3.75, 1 1 x 10 ½ trays Silverleaf for£2.50 and 1 x 10 ½ trays Alyssum for £2.50; which made a total of £19.13, which was very good and cheap. Then it took me four hours to secure them. I also picked up my photographs and did some building society transactions. Home to unload them all and then a couple of phone calls before it was time for tea and then to take Deborah horse riding. I took along her Brownie badge book and the instructress signed for her to qualify for one. I asked about Daniella, but I think that she needs to be 4 or 5 to start learning. Della was a bit of a pain for the hour there, though I think that she enjoyed coming. I dropped in on Pat & Percy Meyer on the way back, in Offord, to drop off their holiday pictures, which were on the same roll as our election shots. Home to do the ducks and doves and tie my second mole on the trophy line by its tail! This evening I made a few phone calls, then went round to take my FOCUS photos to Moira for transport to Cambridge tomorrow. Arranged for the FOCUS to be printed over the weekend by John Matthewman and for all the parties involved to contact each other. Spoke to an old computer industry friend, Graham Clifton of Transam, today, at length, which was nice. It has been a drizzly, dull sort of day today. News today is of a Soviet envoy reporting that Gorbachev plans to visit the UK soon. The UK/Iran talks adjourn and are due to continue as an Iranian is released from a UK jail. At the Arab summit, funds are pledged for the PLO in its uprising in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. The BBC is under attack from the South African government and 25 pro-South Africa MPs, for publicising the minority’s struggle and harsh treatment at the hands of the security forces. An unfortunate crisis in England’s test cricket, as England’s Captain, Mike Gatting, is stripped of the captaincy after allegations of sexual misconduct in the tabloid press. He admits inviting female company to his hotel room during the last test match but denies all else.
