Trading promises with the Tories in the local elections

On a day of fine weather, I went over to Offord to help Percy and two others canvas to there and had completed quite a section of Offord Cluny by the end of the morning. This evening, five us for were canvassing Abbotsley, after which we analysed the returns which showed the prediction as being very close. The TGWU, on behalf of the dockers, holding back from a dock strike in order to choose winnable ground and inflation is up to 7.9%.

I was very tired again this morning and pledged that I would have an early night tonight in consequence. I did my chores and then went over to Offord to help Percy and two others canvas there. I got on quite well, finding many people out and leaving ‘sorry we missed you’ notes, which are very effective, and we had done quite a section of Offord Cluny by the end of the morning. I took a rest after lunch and then tried to start some paperwork this afternoon, but it is difficult to change gear so quickly. I also chased my printer and the book is still on schedule for next week which is a relief. This evening, five us for were canvassing Abbotsley and found it a bit tricky with two candidates for two elections. We still canvassed quite a lot of support in the absence of any visible Tory campaigning whatsoever. They have yet to even put out a leaflet we could beat them if they do not soon spot the danger and our prediction is neck and neck with our work winning through.

A drink in the pub together, and then Percy and I back to Offord to analyse the results before I came home and was in bed for once before 11pm. The news today was of the TGWU, on behalf of the dockers, holding back from a dock strike in order to choose winnable ground. Inflation statistics today show a rise up to 7.9%. The weather was fine today which was a great help.
