he family on The Lady for our Norfolk Broads holiday

The whole family up early packed and out by 8:30 AM to leave for Norfolk, popping in to my mum and dad for coffee at 10 AM to find mum with her new mobility chair but dad still in pain waiting for his radiotherapy to start next Tuesday. We reach Brundall just after midday, launched Daniel’s boat in the dinghy, stored our car and trailer and then boarded The Lady and set off for Norwich for a big welcome at the Norwich yacht station. US President Bush has visited Warsaw, the row continues over Hong Kong, British hostage mother Mrs McCarthy dies of cancer without seeing her son and the government besieged by strikes

I was late getting to bed last night and even later getting to sleep. Even though we were awoken quite early this morning to get ready for our trip to Norfolk. We managed to get up, dressed etc. and complete our packing to be ready to leave by 8.30 a.m. I telephoned my dad and arrange for us to pop in for coffee at 10 a.m., which we then did. Mum has a new mobility chair now, which can take around her mobile home, estate and Shepherds Grove Park. Dad’s face is still painful and he is scheduled to start his radiotherapy on Tuesday next. They both appreciated a visit and meeting with the children and the kids in turn appreciated the journey’s break. Onwards to reach Brundall by 12.15 p.m. and we then launched Daniel’s boat and the dinghy.

We stored the Range Rover and the towing trailer and then all jumped aboard Dan’s boat and he took us round to The Lady. A tough task followed of sorting out the ‘mothership’ and then transferring the infantry and crew aboard. We went to the pub next to Broom’s for lunch (which took a while) and then we had a few games on the football machine. After a trip to the Riverside shop, we then set off for Norwich. It took a couple of hours, but we were welcome to the yacht station by the official who recognises from two years ago, who found us a birth without double mooring to a strange boat. A quiet evening in Norwich. The news tonight is of Pres Bush’s visit to Warsaw, which is a historic occurrence. A senior Tory has come out in favour of Hong Kong residents being given right of entry to Britain, but he is in a party minority. The mother of the British hostage in Beirut, Mrs McCarthy, died yesterday without achieving her last wish to see her son before she died with cancer. The government are besieged this coming week with industrial disputes and strikes the Wimbledon men’s and women’s champions of tennis were compatriots Boris Becker and Stephie Graff from Germany. Martini at Navratilova and Edberg with the unsuccessful finalists. The weather was dull, cool with fine rain occasionally in the air, but tomorrow is forecast to be much warmer and brighter, which is good.
