The Channel Tunnel eventually completed after the March 1989 route was confirmed

Whilst Di makes her trip to Colchester to see her sister, I had breakfast and then examined my conservatory fish, who are progressing well before settling down to work on my last book chapter. I ended up making my own salad lunch and then watching England in a World Cup qualifying football match live on the TV before resuming my writing. Later, attending the committee meeting of the St Neots Museum and then meeting Desmond Merrill of Great Gransden to discuss his council candidacy. Previous history of poor train safety has been revealed about Purley in 1985 and the new the tunnel route for the approach line to the Channel Tunnel has been confirmed.

I was awake a little early this morning and Di had gone down to get ready for a trip to Colchester. I had breakfast and then fed the fish. The Ohgon is still recovering and they are all progressing well. I spent this morning working on my last chapter – The Post-War Development of Little Paxton. I worked on the Wartime Fires of Little Paxton and finish that section by lunchtime. I prepared my salad and took it through to the conservatory and ate it there. Then, this afternoon, I found out that England were involved in a World Cup qualifying football match live on the TV and so I watched that this afternoon. I resumed work later and made good progress on the section describing the Post-War Development.

This evening, I had a committee meeting of the St Neots Museum and then went on with Percy Meyer and Michael Pope to meet Desmond Merrill of Great Gransden, who we are trying to get to stand for us as a Democrat in the forthcoming District Council election, rather than being an Independent. He might well, but we will have to wait until the weekend. The news is all about trains today; it seems a train crash was narrowly averted at Purley in 1985 raising serious questions over rail safety, following the recent crash. There was unarmed train robbery in Surrey as well today, which was somewhat unusual. Also the government has confirmed the tunnel route for the approach line to the Channel Tunnel. I went to bed a bit late after my meeting and watching a little more TV.
