Daniel growing up fast and learning to drive
Daniel growing up fast and learning to drive

On a day of sun and heavy showers, I took Di to Bedford this morning and spent time at the Peacocks auction room before looking around the library and bookshops with a view to placing my book. A disappointing and stuffy lunch at Beales, and then little found of interest at Willington Garden Centre on our way home before collecting Debbie and Daniel to change Debbie’s chest protector in Alconbury and give Daniel another driving lesson.

I could not get up very early this morning as I have been catching up on this last two days journal. Poor Daniel had got up early for a driving lesson, but he had to wait until this evening. I was late down to breakfast and soon Britain’s, the furnishers, arrived to fit a new lounge carpet. I then opted to go with Diana to Bedford this morning and spent time at the Peacocks auction room and then looking around the library and bookshops with a view to placing my book for sale soon. Di had a hair appointment and then we had lunch together at Beales, which was a bit disappointing. The lack of light, windows and hot atmosphere was not very conducive to our salad lunch. Once home, this afternoon, we moved the furniture back into the lounge and on to the new carpet and installed the TV and video such that we were then back to normal again.

This evening, Percy Meyer came around and we keyed in his address list for ‘thank-you’ letters after the campaign. The news today was of party politicians slugging it out over defence policy. Labour’s new multilateral nuclear disarmament policy was slated by Thatcher in her Scottish conference speech, but Labour still press the government for breaking the interim court injunction against distributing their Poll Tax leaflet. The USSR has announced major cuts in short-range nuclear missiles and put pressure on NATO to do the same thing. The BBC trade unions are threatening another series of one-day strikes over the amount of their pay rise and the same threat exists for a range of other public sector organisations. Today was a mixture of sun and heavy showers. Di and I went to Willington Garden Centre on our travels but saw little to buy. I gave Daniel his driving lesson by picking him and Debbie up from school and also changed Debbie’s chest protector for another from Alconbury which is easier to put on and have better size.
