Former West German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, sweeps to victory in the first all-German election since 1932

Spending virtually the whole day on my Journal and the Focus layout after breakfast with the family in my dressing gown and whilst briefly seeing Daniel after he spent the night with his friend in Cambridge. After completing most of the Focus I took a break watching televised football and snooker until taking tea with the family in the lounge.

Sadam Hussein has accepted the offer of talks with the US, former West German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, sweeps to victory in the first all-German election since 1932 and Gorbachev's domestic problems continue.

I was up very early this morning and came down to my office in my dressing gown to update my journal for these last few days and the month of November before breakfast. I achieved this satisfactorily and still managed to shower and shave but had to have my nice Sunday fried breakfast in my dressing gown again. There was no sign of Daniel, who had stayed with his friend in Cambridge overnight, but he popped in this morning and then came back for Sunday lunch when we had a proper chance to have a chat with him. He enjoys Di's food after his own cooking and the perpetual junk food he has at other times. He says that Angela is still his girlfriend and that all else at university is well, but we would never known anyway as he seldom answers with more than a single syllable.

I spent almost the entire day laying out the FOCUS using my desk-top publishing software and, by the end of it, had completed the common centre and the front and back pages for the two St Neots wards of Priory Park and Eaton Socon. This still left Paxton and the villages to do. I had a couple of rest periods as it can be quite mind-boggling to sit in front of computer screen all day. I watched most of a live TV football match in the afternoon until it was apparent that Arsenal was going to score an unusual victory over Liverpool and then had tea-time in the lounge with the girls watching one of their children's drama programmes. At the end of the evening, I watched the climax of an epic snooker battle between Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry, and saw the latter win on the last frame of 31.

Sadam Hussein has accepted the offer of talks with the US but warns of a 50-50 chance of war. Former West German Chancellor, Helmut Kohl, sweeps to victory in the first all-German election since 1932 but he has to continue with a coalition with the Free Democrats which favour defence cuts and less militarisation which will not help Germany to get involved in the Gulf. Gorbachev's domestic problems continue as he sacks his Interior Minister and as Germany sends relief food aid into the USSR to help them through the winter.
