A lay day in Lincoln
A lay day in Lincoln

A lay day in Lincoln visiting the Castle and trying some fishing for bream as I heard good news of  our Eaton Socon by-election where Ross McKay had won for the Liberal Democrats with a vote of over 800 compared with 100-odd for each of the Labour and Conservative candidates.

The day in Lincoln and we enjoyed the rest and recuperation after our trip. The water was hot in the boat and so we showered on board the Paxton Princess this morning and then I went to see the harbourmaster who was very friendly and helpful and took our fee of £3 per day, gave us the combination to the shower block security lock and agreed that we could connect up to the electricity. There was also a laundry that Diana could use. We took his advice and tried breakfast for 99p at the Littlewoods Department Store cafeteria before going on. This morning, we spent taking a look around Lincoln, dropping on the railway station and tourist information office and getting the lay of the place.

Then, after lunch, we divided forces for a while and let Daniel go off home for a day or so to see Angela and his friends whilst we went to see Lincoln Castle and joined the conducted tour which was very interesting. Tea and then a more leisurely evening for me fishing off the boat whilst the girls tried out the showers and launderette. I caught a few bream on bread paste and would have done better if I could have found some maggots. Today was the election day for the Eaton Socon town council ward and I telephoned Pat Meyer and heard of the very good result. Ross McKay had won for the Liberal Democrats with a vote of over 800 compared with 100-odd for each of the Labour and Conservative candidates. To bed quite early and in peace as Diana and I are now over our row and trying a little harder to please one-another. The weather was cooler but bright today, but we also had a shower or two later on. We were comfortable in our boat with the shore-power connected and so did not have to worry.
