From Lincoln through the "Glory Hole" and down the River Witham towards Boston. It took some five hours or so to get to Boston and then the sight of St Botulph's Church, "The Stump", came into view. The Grand Sluice lock-keeper who did not think much of our plans to go to Wells-next-the-Sea and thought that we would soon be getting north-westerlies and so we would stay a while

We slept well enough after the other boaters settled down. The moorings were on both sides of adjacent jetties and the next boat crew were singing and playing a guitar quite pleasantly and then another crew were fretting over the return of a son who had gone off drinking! This morning, Di was keen that we should make an early start and got me up at 6.00am with a cup of tea. We both went along to the showers and laundry but were baulked by a twit who was taking half an hour to shower and shave before we could get in when we found that he had made a right mess as well. It was markedly cooler today and I got quite chilled waiting outside in my pyjamas and dressing gown. Once back at the boat and dressed and shaved, I settled down to write up the ship's log until the girls were up and it was time to go once more to Littlewoods for a nice breakfast.

Then the long walk up the hill to Lincoln Cathedral this time and I found this quite uplifting. In particular, there was a quiet chapel and notepad for prayer requests, and somebody had written about a grandmother terminally-ill with cancer. Back down the hill and to go our separate ways; the girls to the bookshops for a free read of their favourite books, Di to more shopping and I dropped into an electrical shop to buy a second-hand Avo-8 before getting back to the boat to listen out for weather forecasts. The news was a bit uncertain, but I decided it would be best to leave Lincoln today and review the position at Boston. We were all back at the boat for 12.15pm to move it along to the service quay to get water and a pump out which we had to do before the harbourmaster left for the day at 12.45am. Then lunch at Littlewoods before we folded everything down and went through the "Glory Hole" and down the River Witham towards Boston.

It had been raining and we had to wait until that had finished until we could get going. It was a long and tedious trip this time and so Diana took turns on the helm with me, and I typed up these last three days' journal. Then she did her ironing whilst the boat re-charged my computer in turn. It took some five hours or so to get to Boston and then the sight of St Botulph's Church, "The Stump", came into view. After cruising up and down a couple of times, I tied up at the British Waterways moorings which had electricity as well as water and security. It was close to dark and coming on to rain and so I just had a look round with Diana before dark. In doing so, I chanced upon the Grand Sluice lock-keeper who did not think much of our plans to go to Wells-next-the-Sea and thought that we would soon be getting north-westerlies.
