Tom Hanks starring in the film Mr Big

Another mild day at home working on filing and financial affairs and briefing Della about the demise of Hugh Hunter, whilst Di was doing her Christmas shopping. She was asking questions about who would look after Mr Hunter’s dog and run the school.

The Rev Peter Lewis called again to see Della after which watched the film "Big" starring Tom Hanks with Diana and the girls about a boy growing up

Another day at home and, whilst I did not seem to achieve as much as I would have liked, it represented sound progress for me. I was late to bed and then to rise, having breakfast with Della again. I took this opportunity to tell her the ad news of Mr Hugh Hunter and she took it very well really; asking questions in sorrow but being reassured by my being there. She wanted to know where he would be buried, if his dog was all right and who would be its master, who would be the new headmaster, when he had died etc. and I answered all of these as honestly as I could.

I then got down to work in my office completing the urgent correspondence and then the backlog of filing that had been holding me up. Time also for some updating of my financial affairs whilst Di was shopping all morning, completing the purchase of most of her Christmas things. Nurse Michelle Howard was here again to look after Della. I realised, when her mother called with a message, that I realised she was the daughter of a local Tory Town Councillor which was a funny twist to the old adage that it is a small world! I did not mind. The gardener and I succeeded in trapping the mole that had been burrowing away this last couple of days and threatening the games lawn. I tied it up by the tail in my customary way and it will be smelling the place out in a day or two.

The Rev Peter Lewis came round again this afternoon to see Della and stayed long enough to see Della and Diana return from their trip to the hairdressers. Della's hair was trimmed nicely but she did not enjoy the experience as she was treated to the tale of her hairdressers car accident injuries that had made her go quite white with horror! This evening, with Diana and the girls watching the film "Big" about a boy growing up which we all enjoyed and brought tears to my eyes. This was another very mild day and the gardener managed to catch up on his backlog of shredding leaves and other garden foliage now that the leaves had just about finished falling.
