Stephen Bloom had been made redundant and just needed somebody to talk to

A day working at home, catching up with calls and arrangement as Steve Bloom visits with his bad news before reconciling my political colleagues dispute and managing some gardening in between. The Gulf news is both confusing and worrying with Iraqi manoeuvres on the Kuwait/Saudi border

I was tired today from a series of late nights and also from the tension of giving the history talk yesterday evening. Slow to get up this morning and so had breakfast with the family in my dressing gown so that I could see the girls off to school. Some reading and the televised news on the Gulf War and then I got showered and dressed before getting down to some work in my office. A number of calls and visits today during which I organised the work that needed doing for both the Paxton Princess and The Hayling View hall/utility area.

Sorted out much of my paperwork and correspondence and then had Stephen Bloom arrive before lunch to give me his news. He has been made redundant by his employer and just needed somebody to talk to, I think, but I will be mentioning him to anyone who could make use of a committed production manager should the opportunity arise. After lunch, I went outside and first weeded the beds in the front garden, before working on until dark clearing leaves from much of the riverside garden. After tea, I typed up and printed my considered views on the Gamlingay schools issue which are designed to reconcile the positions of Marion Woodbridge and Sue Sutton. This took until 10.00pm and I just updated my diary before going to bed with the aim of getting a better night's sleep.

The war news was of the latest interpretation of the Iraqi manoeuvres on the Kuwait/Saudi border which seem to have been part of a more major plan to occupy a part of Saudi Arabia. The battle for Khafgi was only one part and the rest was repulsed by Allied air attacks. Better news from South Africa where historic plans are laid before the parliament to end the legal pillars of Apartheid. Another dull and cold day, but the sun did come out briefly and we also had overnight rain.
