Working hard to increase our LibDem representation on Huntingdonshire District Council

Almost the entire day spent on Election Artwork, checking it with colleagues Michael, Derek and others before finalising it. I learnt that my printing was finished but that I would have to arrange for its folding the next day in Cambridge. The latest opinion polls have the Liberal Democrats climbing back to levels of nearly 20% which was very heartening

I spent the entire day laying out the remaining election artwork. The main task was the "Out" slip - a printed piece of paper that is left when a canvasser calls and has missed meeting a voter. It is used to publicise the fact that we have called, to seek their support and to explain on whose behalf we were calling. The public are always poor at understanding the difference between a Town, District and County Council election and, furthermore, when two of these elections take place at the same time and they have two voting slips (and the right to cast a multiple number of votes on one of them) this becomes even more confusing. I was struggling for the right formula for much of the day and got Michael, Derek and others round to have a look at it before deciding on a design that had all of the candidates’ names in a representation of how they would appear on the ballot papers.

The latest opinion polls have the Liberal Democrats climbing back to levels of nearly 20% which is very heartening, and we stand a good chance of doing very well in the election. There is much other organisational work to do, and we have to overcome the problem of several of us being away for some weeks of the campaign which could cause communication problems. Broke off this evening at about 10.00pm, feeling tired. I had managed to contact John Matthewman late this evening, who confirmed that my printing was finished but that I would have to arrange for its folding tomorrow in Cambridge.
