My final Eve of Poll preparations as the LibDems Regional Organiser as Polling Day the next day comes fast as a steam train but my arrangements were falling into place by making best use of my volunteer helpers

The time to elections shortens almost exponentially as the campaign goes on and, suddenly, we were running out of time to organise the remaining things that were required. John Davidson and I arranged to meet later on in the day once Diana had brought the new Shuttleworth paper from Cambridge but first I had to input the final canvassing data into the computer for Eaton Socon and prepare it for use. This took me most of the morning under some stress, but I was then ready for John in the afternoon. He brought his own computer over and we worked for some time together until all of the Eaton Socon printing was done and we were well into the Priory Park versions.

These ‘Shuttleworths’ were needed for processing the data brought back from the polling station helpers. I arranged for Tony Carmedy to come over and collect the Shuttleworths and also to take a sheet of plywood from my house for use as a table in the Eaton Socon Committee Room. Later, the final polling day leaflets were going out after 9.00pm and I stayed at my house to sort out my office and gather together the particular things that I would need to take around with me all day tomorrow. I discovered that the computer data files contained details of which of our supporters were pensioners and so I printed this out for both Priory and Eaton so that they could knock-up these older people first. By now, I had also had the new battery for my printer and so charged both this and the one for my portable computer as well. All this kept me up quite late until I eventually got to bed after mid-night ahead of another early start in the morning.
