The Government's Autumn Statement
The Government's Autumn Statement

Della was now settled at end of first week in hospital a I spent some time with her and then returned with Debbie as there was no play leader on this day. Today started frosty and had me worried about the damage to Heronshaw and the Paxton Princess but ended up milder, windier and wetter which was a relief.

The Government's Autumn Statement which was aimed to have sufficient public spending sweeteners to please the electorate whilst not being too generous for fear of upsetting the city.

Today marked the end of one week for Della in hospital and by now she was settling into a routine and being very relaxed about it. It was Diana's turn to go along early to see her and I stayed at home for the early part of the morning. Debbie had to make her own way to the bus stop and then I cleared up and got some letters ready for posting. The conservatory is a nice refuge on these occasions, and I was feeding the fish and watering the plants when Bill Medlock came by and we chatted about Della and the garden for a while. Then I went into see Della as there was no play activity leader today and it fell to me to keep her entertained this morning in the playroom.

There was a little girl called Teresa from Southoe recovering from a minor ear operation and they played quite actively together with Della's bed next to the ball pool and Teresa within it. I also put her alongside the football table, and we played that as well and she is becoming quite proficient at it. She had lunch there and then I wheeled her back to her normal bay and got her settled for the afternoon. I went off home and left Diana to look after her and she evidently had three lots of visitors which was nice. Back home, I was tired and so just managed to do some financial transactions in St Neots and the odd bit of shopping but rested in the lounge until Debbie got home and we prepared our tea. Debbie seems quite happy and relaxed a week on and, after tea, she came with me to see Della and they played a while together and shared some of the chocolates that the invalid seems to be receiving in abundance.

As Debbie was with her, this gave Diana and I the chance of having a coffee together in the family room and relax until another distraught Mum came in with her problems. Di took Debbie home and I sat with Della until she went off to sleep which was quite late as Della had been through an active day. I also watched a TV soccer match and saw Liverpool win the second leg of a European match sufficiently well to go through to the next round on aggregate. Today started frosty and had me worried about the damage to Heronshaw and the Paxton Princess but ended up milder, windier and wetter which was a relief. This afternoon, I watched the Government's Autumn Statement which was aimed to have sufficient public spending sweeteners to please the electorate whilst not being too generous for fear of upsetting the city. The result was a confusing and lack-lustre event which won few converts.
