Imray Laurie and Wilson based at The Broadway St Ives

After morning coffee, a visit to the Doctor’s for an examination to see my damaged nose for which I had a private referral to a consultant EMT surgeon for help. Then to St Ives to visit Imray Laurie for some French canal guides and to bemoan the demise of the former Ekins/Prudential antique auction.

An evening meeting to see about using the E.A.R.S. computer use during the election without success and then very late home to bed. Mr Porter, the plumber, took a look at our pool room plumbing and found a bad leak under the shower tray.

To St Neots with Diana this morning where we had coffee at Brackenbury's Cafe. I had made my appointment with the St Neots Doctor's Surgery for this morning and called there to see a young Asian women Doctor Saroya. I told her my sorry tale about falling on my nose in Scotland and felt I necessary to emphasise that I was not drunk at the time! She took a good look, thought that my nose did not look straight and noted that I could barely breathe through my left nostril at all. After some discussion, I opted to get her referral to a private clinic of Mr Ellis, Consultant EMT Surgeon next week and it looks like I will need an operation.

I was then re-united with Diana who collected me from the surgery and then we drove to St Ives where I wanted to drop in on Imray Laurie to see some guides to the French Canals. Diana thought that they were very good and so we bought three area guides before we left. I like that publisher because, as well as being based locally, they cover the East Coast cruising grounds. A walk down St Ives High Street and look at the shops before lunch at the cafe near what used to be the auction rooms. After Ekins sold out to Prudential, they made a right mess of this splendid antique and general auction and now it has sadly closed down all together which is a loss to the town. Even the household auction has disbanded.

Home in mid-afternoon to answer a range of telephone messages and then this evening to a meeting at Rick Sutton's behest to talk about the E.A.R.S. computer use during the election. I called on John Roscoe and took him along, but this was a rather fruitless evening as the new software did not seem to want to work with my existing data. Home very late indeed and later still before I had unwound and got ready for bed. Mr Porter, the plumber, came today at our request and took up the shower tray in the pool room and found an appalling soggy mess. Aldridge and Cooper had made a very poor installation and the shower and urinal output were draining through the floor with the block walls absolutely saturated.
