I treated Steve to fish and chips and a river trip later.

A less active but equally tiring day ordering and planning materials for my Harnser boathouse construction, trying to schedule all of the items that we needed at the right price and then sequencing their arrival. Steven worked with the builders as I organised, and I treated him to fish and chips and a river trip later.

After all of my physical effort yesterday, I settled for a day at the telephone and notepad today planning the rest of the job and materials. In many ways I found this even more tiring and ended the day quite shattered. It was a tense job trying to schedule all of the materials that we needed at the right price and then sequencing their arrival. Also, being new to the task of fire-proofing and insulating a building there was a lot to understand and put into practice. I just about had it all sorted by the end of the day so that I had prices and plans in place.

I had to go and get the electrical materials before the following Monday and have wholesale prices on the boarding and insulation so that I can check the quotes I am now expecting from Jewsons. Steven was taking my place today and helped the builders raise the three tie beams and position and fix the upstairs joists. He also carried on the earth moving so that the lawn is gradually getting cleared. After work, I took Steve to Wroxham where we had some fish and chips before coming back to go for a trip up the river in The Jolly. We were enjoying the air and looking at the other bungalows and boat-houses from which we deduced that an overall colour of chestnut brown with the windows a darker brown would be a good combination.

We stopped for a drink at the pub on the way back and saw the eel-catcher fishing for roach and catching a few. I found out later that he uses these for eel bait. Doris Vincent next door is still going around saying of our boathouse, "Isn't it huge?" which is rather annoying and a bit disconcerting. The weather was rather drizzly this morning, but it did not hold things up and was brighter this afternoon.
