The 5th building week with the installation of roof braces the priority

Another hot and sunny day ended the 5th building week with the installation of roof braces the priority as the scaffolders came today and erected a fourth side to the structure so that we will be in a position to finish off the roof early next week.

Sonny Amis came to look at the Heronshaw foundations that we had excavated, and he agreed that the old piles were worth capping. To see "Norah's Arc" at the Arts Theatre and Picasso's Pizza for tea

Yet another hot and sunny day and I joined David and Steven on the site at 8.00am. My achievement today was to apply the second coat of stain to the windows and also to organise more materials and work to be done. The workmen braced the eaves of the enclosed side of the boathouse and installed two runs of the roof wind braces and then started on the final roof truss that will face the river. The scaffolders came today and erected a fourth side to the structure so that we will be in a position to finish off the roof early next week. I also arranged for Sonny Amis to come and look at the Heronshaw foundations that we had excavated, and he agreed that the old piles were worth capping and that we could plan a scheme to introduce new piles and tie them in with the old ones.

They will do the new piles in four weeks’ time if we want and I will talk to him again when I have worked out a scheme for further discussion. I paid off the workers tonight again and said goodbye to Steven who will be away on a boat next week, leaving Dave and Alan to get on with the work. The girls went into Norwich today to an arts theatre production all about saving the earth called "Norah's Arc" and were not very impressed, but I took them over to Picasso's Pizza for tea and then toured the Horning waterways on The Jolly looking at the roofs of other waterside properties before we commit to our choice of roof tiles. The weekend is forecast dry, and we will relax and enjoy it.
