I fretted over the demise of my father due to the incompetence and lack of care of the Bury St Edmunds consultant

A sunny and windy day at home after gales the day before as Steven took Christine’s boat around the coast and I fretted over the demise of my father due to the incompetence and lack of care of the Bury St Edmunds consultant.

More burdensome paperwork and then to spend time with the girls playing tennis and practicing their catching and, for Della, bike-riding as well.

I was awake very early having gone to sleep thinking of last night's film and then waking up fretting about my father's death from cancer. It was some time since I had thought about how that consultant had acted too slowly when Dad was an outpatient at Bury St Edmunds, then let him have a whole course of radiation treatment without being monitored as he deteriorated so that when he had his next ear operation it was already too late as the cancer had spread. I also dwell on the fact that the consultant went off to South Africa on a symposium at a critical time leaving nobody who felt able to make decisions on dad whilst he was away.

Worst off all, his evident nervousness and offishness when I eventually got him to talk to us and the fact that he would not let me take notes. His incompetence did for dad all right! Had a longish chat with Di about this until she lost interest and got away to make the drinks. After breakfast and doing the chores, I managed some paperwork and then went off to St Neots just before lunch to renew our house buildings insurance and to try to re-tax the Rolls Royce and Reliant. The Reliant was all right, but I will have to wait for a new MOT which I organised today for Bedford next Friday before I can re-tax the Rolls Royce.

Had quite a good time watching the cricket this afternoon and evening as England get back into the game, but I still spent time with the girls playing tennis and practicing their catching and, for Della, bike-riding as well. I fell to my journal this evening and also managed to do quite a bit of other paperwork but my new action list was appallingly long. Sunny and windy today and, after gales yesterday, I cannot believe that Steven has actually taken Christine's boat round the coast as he planned.
