I weighed myself and discovered that I had gained half a stone in Scotland which was bad news. Some time with the gardener, as he had hardly seen me for a couple of months. On good terms with Diana this morning and then, as she went shopping in St Neots, I also slipped away and bought her twenty red roses to complete her new rose-bowl present. Some time on the swimming pool, getting the p.h.balance nearer neutral from alkali as it has been switched off, gradually going green and will shortly be laid up and covered up completely. Diana cane back to make a smoked mackerel salad lunch for me and then I updated my journal, hung my antlers up temporarily and then got down to some other work and organisation. Later in the afternoon, I went out to the St Neots building societies for information and bought some shooting magazines but then resumed correspondence and helped the girls with their homework this evening before taking an early night with Diana, still tired from my Scottish trip.
