Reliant Robin rolling in staged demonstration

A very early start on a chillier morning with a mist of rain in the air as Di had to take Debbie to join two other riders for a four-hour hack and I drove around visiting all my deliverers with the new Focus newsletters. Then to Sandy, witnessing a scary car Reliant Robin accident on the way and assisting the rescue of a heavily pregnant lady before driving off to see my Dad again at Addenbrookes.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has called for people to recognise the Pope ‘as the universal church leader’ in the interests of church unity and Labour are ahead in three opinion polls undertaken in the 50 Conservative marginal seats.

I was up very early on a chillier morning with a mist of rain in the air as Di had to take Debbie to horse riding in order that the two other girls would not leave without her on a hack and she had a four-hour hack with them. I fed the fish, doves and back flushed the fishpond – which is made much easier now that I have plumbed in the outlet hoses. Then I packed up the leaflet rounds and drove around visiting all of my deliverers, getting rid of the last of them by 11:30am.

I had time for an hour’s trip to Sandy to buy a small Koi carp for the girls and to see whether I could get the two carp that dad liked. I had quite a traumatic experience on the way. I was following two cars behind a Reliant Robin three-wheeler when it staggered and spun into the air crashing down on its roof, crushing the fibreglass panels which splintered. I was watching this spectacle for a split second and nearly piled into the car in front which had stopped dead to help. Once I had pulled off of the road and ran back, I stopped the gathering crowd trying to lift the car as the woman was trapped under and could have been hurt more by trying to move it. It then became apparent that one of the men was the driver whose wife was under the car and had just got out.

I then calmed everybody down as there was no fuel leak or imminent danger and coaxed the lady who then managed to edge out legs first carefully and completely unscathed, even though she was 7 to 8 months pregnant with a child. I pretended not to notice a slight issue with modesty during this process as she was not wearing anything under her dress and was in her natural state due to her condition! It was all quite a miracle, particularly as the car came to rest against a couple of heavy posts which would have made a right mess of them. I waited with them until the ambulance and police and firemen arrived.

They were shocked but seemed okay and so I gave my name and address to the police and drove on to Avenue fisheries. There, I looked at the fish and bought a small baby one for the girls. I drove home via side roads to avoid roadworks congestion and then took the family out to lunch on my way over to Addenbrookes to see Dad. There was no change in his condition, and we await the visit of Mum to see him tomorrow and the brain scan on Monday. This evening, I read council papers, made some phone calls and looked at some Japanese Koi magazines. On the eve of their party conference, Labour are ahead in three opinion polls undertaken in the 50 Conservative marginal seats.
