Working further on my Little Paxton map after a hard frost this morning as Debbie mimics my efforts and our turkey is safely delivered after 64 cards have been received. Scarborough football club Chairman Barry Adamson dies intervening in a fight between rival fans and Boy George is arrested on drug charges as his companion dies of an overdose
Another nice lay in and down to breakfast in my pyjamas for a fried breakfast. The morning papers – full of MI5 scandals and the involvement of two Tory MPs, Winston Churchill and another – and then very late upstairs to shave, shower and dress. Came down again and went out to feed the ducks and doves, but managed to get Daniel to do it for me and so saved myself the trouble. His friend Steve was over for the day and had been working himself silly since school broke up, plucking turkeys, chickens etc for a neighbouring farm. He was glad of the rest today. More work on my map, starting to colour in the rivers and brooks and then the involved process of Sunday lunch. Helped Di in to the kitchen with the tray then layed up the dining table and brought out all of the best china and silver.
A nice lunch of roast beef, but Della slept through it and has become more ill. The long process of washing up after and, before resuming my map, Di wanted me to light a log fire in the lounge, which I did. The afternoon (what was left of it) and the evening on my map, drawing on and labelling the furlongs and then starting to interpret the enclosure award schedule again, so as to label further the allotments with their names and areas. Steven was gone before teatime and then Daniel reverted to the computer after a bath. Debbie came ‘to draw a map like her daddy’, but I was glad of the peace and quiet when she went off to bed. She had come into my bed this morning as well to show me an exercise book full of numbers that she had done. The milkman delivered our turkey today and we have already put it in the garage to thaw. Not long to Christmas now, 64 cards already received. A hard frost this morning, but it did not affect us – and plenty of cold showers during the day, but we were inside. News tonight is of a double murder in Salisbury, Wilts, with the two young women sexually assaulted and then murdered. The singer ‘Boy George’ is arrested on drugs charges and his companion died from an overdose after being allowed home. Six youths were arrested after yesterday’s Scarborough vs Morecombe football match, after the Scarborough Chairman, Barry Adamson, collapsed and died when intervening to keep the fighting fans apart. He was allegedly head butted in the chest before dying of a heart attack. More comment on the Stalker controversy as it seems he was frozen out of the Manchester constabulary by lack of cooperation from Anderton, the Chief Constable.
