I completed my staining early again today which was as well as the scaffolders arrived at 2.30pm to reveal my fine boathouse trusses and rafters.
Then to Latham’s of Potter Heigham for some small items of fishing tackle for my Scottish trip, to Jewson’s for guttering to finish the roof, before home in time to go to bed with Diana.
I was out to continue my staining early again today and was well into the job before 9.00am. It was hard work again stretching, kneeling and reaching all of the crevices but I only took a few short breaks and kept on going with the intention of finishing in mid-afternoon to give myself the chance of going to Jewsons and doing a few other chores. This was all just as well as the scaffolders arrived at 2.30pm having received my message about the boards and I was finished with these just in time. In fact, they helped me down with the rest and I could pay them the balance of the hire charge so as to leave nothing outstanding for tomorrow. The large boat-shed trusses and rafters look a picture without those old boards blocking the view and I was pretty pleased with the result when I had finished.

Finishing staining most of the boat-house timbers and then fitting a windowsill and some lining and surrounding architrave as a trial run.
John Koch of Taylor-Vinters agreed that he should make a representation to the planners over the unreasonable conditions as John Smith's made his first speech to the Labour Party Conference as party leader.
I finished the bulk of the staining of the boat-house timbers today, leaving a manageable amount to complete the job tomorrow. It was hard and tedious work, but I took down the radio and tuned into Radio 4 and listened to a range of interesting programmes which passed the time more pleasantly. I broke up the work with a few breaks, drinking water mainly and eating sandwiches and Garibaldi biscuits. Later this evening, I went inside and tried fitting a windowsill and some lining and surrounding architrave as a trial run, choosing the toilet as a room that did not matter so much. In the event, the result was very pleasing and I now feel that I have cracked it and can do the rest.

I spent most of this gloriously sunny and warm Norfolk autumn day's daylight hours staining the roof timbers again. I fitted the next fluorescent light. Failing to get a circular saw in B & Q, I collected a fine Chinese take-a-away meal in the city
It was a gloriously sunny and warm Norfolk autumn day, even though the lack of wind meant that it started and ended misty and foggy. I could get the cover off of my wood pile and get the cladding drying again but, apart from a few other chores, I spent all of today's daylight hours staining the roof timbers again. I fitted the next fluorescent light and transferred the planks this morning and had just about finished the third bay by the end of the day

Back to work in Horning from Paxton via Mum in Redgrave who was still lacking confidence but settled there again with her neighbour providing most of the care.
Defeated Labour leadership candidate, Brian Gould, has resigned his shadow cabinet position to be able to oppose his party's line on Maastricht
I was first to wake up this morning and made the morning drinks for Diana and I. The mood between us was still frosty after last night, when Di stayed in the ironing room until late watching TV and delayed our departure to bed so that there was no time for us together. I was also first to take my shower and get dressed and then started work by going out to do my chores. The river was still very high and the riverside gardens were still well under water but the games lawn was still dry. I started sorting out some tools and materials in the tool shed when I was called for breakfast of melon and cereal, us not being allowed any fried breakfast any more on Sundays.
