Feeling weary on a dull and misty day but them off to Cambridge in one of our last trips in the Jaguar for lunch in talks will now resume in Iceland, Neil Kinnock carries all before him at The Labour Conference and the pressure on Sterling eases today with West Germany supporting the Bank of England’s efforts the Copper Kettle and some shopping before home to supervise the builders and Daniel as the East West arms
A dull start on a dull and misty morning. Felt quite weary on awakening from yesterday’s exertions. Morning tea and, after my shower and shave, found Daniel playing on his computer instead of getting dressed for breakfast. Boiled egg and toast fingers again today and enjoyed by all except Diana. Lingered after to read today’s newspaper, before feeding the ducks and getting ready to take the girls to Cambridge for the morning. Left the builders laying bricks in the mist and had a comfortable ride, with Di and Della, in the Jaguar. Sad to think we could be getting rid of this car by the end of the week.

Back to house decorating and adjusting doors after the delay of morning mist despite also supervising Daniel’s homework as Debbie attends brownies. This as Danilof is released in trade with Zakharov, leaving the progress of East/West arms talks unimpeded, Labour pledge to remove US nuclear weapons from the UK and expel Derek Hatton and the eight Liverpool militants. The new Dartford crossing will be a Toll bridge after Thatcher refuses to invest government money, Sterling plunges despite Bank of England support and the missing Sheffield solicitor, Ian Wood, who killed his French girlfriend and child at Ughill Manor and absconded with £100,000+ of clients’ money, was arrested today at the top of Amiens Cathedral in France after being talked out of jumping
A good night’s sleep and rest and got straight up after my morning tea and showered and shaved, arriving downstairs before the others at 7.30am. A while afterwards reading the Financial Times, because a foggy mist was to take a long while to clear. A little time in the office, clearing my desk and paying overdue bills, until, by 10.30am the mist had cleared and the window sills had dried out. After coffee, I worked on the office windows, replacing single screws with dual screws to increase their resistance to forcing.

A fine morning with a rising barometer to scrape, sand and paint more Hayling View windows before and after a fine Sunday lunch and consoling Debbie, sad from being excluded from computer games by Daniel and his friends and then a restful and relaxing evening; tired from my efforts. This as a new Ulster bombing campaign is thwarted by a brave constable carrying the device away. Britain’s Black Lloyd Honeyghan, 32, welterweight, become one of only two undisputed world boxing champions as a gang of 40 white youths attacked two black youths in an appalling racial display of violence in Mitcham, Surrey
Slept soundly after a fairly early night and Di got up to make the drinks with little dispute this morning. To the lounge, where I sat and read yesterday’s papers and drank my morning tea. Then a nice fried breakfast and, after brief ablutions, out to the doves. An even finer mornings weather, with the barometer rising and mist lingering even less than recently. Started my toils again and selected the six windows to the baby’s room and kitchen below. Found them in an atrocious state and had to do some carpentry on them to begin with and to clear old paint clogging the effective movement of the windows.

A day working on the Hayling View upstairs windows with just Debbie at home as the family were out, returning in time for lunch together at the Caxton Happy Eater before an abortive outing with Diana to the Huntingdon Cinema after it was sold out after she had taken too much time to get read. Prisoner riots take place about overcrowding at Risley, heavy fighting in Beirut kills 14 and injures 200 and an intermediary steps forward to try and get Daniloff released to solve an East/West stand-off but Reagan’s latest South African sanction veto will be overturned by Congress and he has attracted the ire of Archbishop Tutu for dual standards because Reagan had acted against Libya and Nicaragua already.
Awoke to another misty morning day working on the Hayling View upstairs windows with just Debbie at home as the family were out, returning in time for lunch together at the Caxton Happy Eater before an abortive outing with Diana to the Huntingdon Cinema after it was sold out after she had taken too much time to get read. Prisoner riots take place about overcrowding at Risley, heavy fighting in Beirut kills 14 and injures 200 and an intermediary steps forward to try and get Daniloff released to solve an East/West stand-off but Reagan’s latest South African sanction veto will be overturned by Congress and he has attracted the ire of Archbishop Tutu for dual standards because Reagan had acted against Libya and Nicaragua already.nd fine day to follow. An early call on Saturday so that we can get through breakfast in time for Daniel to walk to St Neots and catch the bus. I ate toast and homemade marmalade and spent a little time, after, reading the Financial Times and Investors Chronicle. The sun was soon breaking through as I fed the doves and then I climbed the ladder to wash and sandpaper another four windows. Got Debbie and I a morning drink, as the rest of the family were out, and then applied an undercoat to the windows. Locked up, got changed and we waited for Di to return. She had a lot of trouble with the building society transactions, but successfully got to St Ives to collect the window seat foam and to Biggleswade to get some more Jordans wheat flakes. We drove to Caxton Happy Eater for lunch, which was an improvement on Tempsford – bigger and better appointed. Then home, so that I could put on a gloss coat. I am running out of windows that have no putty to dry or work that needs doing on them prior to decoration. This evening I put the doves and ducks away, showered, washed my hair and changed, to take Di out to the cinema. She took her time getting ready and, when we eventually got to Huntingdon cinema and queued up for ages, it was full and we had to come home again. What a waste of time and effort. Still, Daniel had a good excuse to stay up and we had an early night. News tonight is of preparations for the Labour Party Conference and the inclusion of a resolution to phase out nuclear power, but Neil Kinnock estimates it will take 20 years to take place. A convicted prisoner serving an 18 year prison sentence and who was rescued by a helicopter piloted by his wife, has been recaptured during a bank robbery shoot-out. Heavy fighting has taken place in Beirut, Lebanon, Killing 14 and injuring 200. Dr Hammer, President of US company, Occidental Petroleum, is acting as an intermediary to try to obtain the release of Daniloff. Eighteen prisoners are still on the roof of Risley Prison, dismantling and throwing down security lights in a protest about overcrowding. The government look like banning Libyan Airline flights from the UK, after their involvement in the recent terrorist case. Reagan has vetoed the Bill on S African sanctions and this is expected to be overturned by a further vote. Archbishop Tutu has castigated him for his veto and accused him of dual standards, because of other sanctions on Libya and Nicaragua. More fine weather is forecast for the next day or two.
