A slightly odd day with me tired and not very energetic at my house decorating project but I made some progress before joining the family for a Happy eater Lunch and then changing later for a GOBA dinner amongst much older guests at The George in Huntingdon but the Wells lifeboat mechanic’s talk was interesting
Slept fine and awoke to my morning tea on another misty day. Had the light on for a while before drawing the curtains and then showered and dressed, ready for breakfast. Once Daniel was ready for school and had left, I went out to feed the doves and then prepared our bedroom French doors for painting. First I used a wire brush to remove the rust from the hinges they had left exposed and then applied a couple of coats of pink oxide primer to them. Feeling a bit tired, I then got changed and took the girls into St Neots earlier than usual. Got myself a half pound of shrimps for tea and a few other things, then walked along to Shawes to see a ‘car-boot’ sale that they organise on Saturdays recently.
A poor trashy display. Not to my taste – though I notice a large number of people buying things – a real ‘Cheap Jack’ sale! Felt tired and a bit hungry, so went to get a couple of pounds of pears from a shop in the Cross Keys yard and then sat in the sunshine of the market square to eat a couple. Eventually, time to meet the rest of the family in Readwells and then take them to the Happy Eater for lunch. Chose the one at Croxton, on the Cambridge Road, again, which is nearer and with better play facilities for the children. Home after and a half-hearted effort at preparing the inner garage for painting, before put everything away. A light tea of some of my shrimps (which I ate alone, nobody else wanting any) and then, with the girls in bed, Di and I got ready for our GOBA dinner date. Away to the George at Huntingdon to find the keen members of the Great Ouse Boating Association already there. A couple of gin & tonics for me in the adjoining bar (orange juices for Di). Then we bought a bottle of Liebfraumilch Wedding Veil and found a couple of seats at table between two parties of friends. Most other celebrants were 20+ years our senior, but I enjoyed this laying up supper, even if Di found it a bit of a trial. Our neighbours were quite friendly and we chatted fairly easily. An after dinner speech from the mechanic of Wells-next-the-sea Lifeboat Station, who told us of some scary trips he had made aboard their lifeboat, earning a silver medal for one courageous trip. A donation to the cause and left quite early to return home. Daniel was fine looking after the girls and we eventually got to bed at 11.30 ish. I drank a pint or two of cold water to overcome some of the excess alcohol I had been drinking. No chance to hear the news today, but no great events seem to have taken place.
