I was up a bit late on a foggy morning after sitting in bed checking yesterday’s FOCUS copy. Having secured Daniel’s help to clean the Range Rover, I finished that task and was able to take the family to Fiona Lockett’s house in the St Neots Priory estate to socialise with DOOM supporters. Back to work on the computer to eventually master PageMaker to produce more copy by working until midnight. Chancellor Lawson is rumoured to be cutting down on benefits for older people and free eye and dental checks for all else. The CBI want protection from foreign takeover bids and the US presidential election is coming to a climax.
Today started very foggy but not so cold as the last few days. I was up a bit late and had sat in bed checking yesterday’s FOCUS copy prior to attempting to create the artwork today. Down to a nice fried breakfast (but I have put on a few pounds this last few days). Had to go and feed the doves quite smartly this morning as the late-season squabs were chirping for their food. I got Daniel to clean the Range Rover so that I could spend this morning working on the corrections to the FOCUS manuscripts. Just had time to print out the updated copy before it was time to take the family to Fiona Lockett’s house in the St Neots Priory estate.
It was a sort of social occasion for DOOM supporters and took the form of a pre-lunch drink session. There were a lot of people there and we met many of them. Arrived back at nearly 2pm and Di only gave us a couple of hamburgers each as we had been nibbling for some time. The rest of the day, I struggled to get to know PageMaker and managed it in the end. I produced front and back sheets for the Priory and Paxton editions in the end, leaving the centre spread still to do tomorrow. It took until midnight to finish off and then sit in the lounge and write my journal to unwind. Main news today was of a leaked story from Chancellor Lawson that he intended to stop the £10 Christmas bonus and automatically-free prescriptions for the elderly. It seems that the ending of free eye tests and dental checks would be the thin end of the wedge to introduce means testing across the board. Police have seized cocaine worth £5 million and arrested five people in Surrey. It was the result of an international network serviced by light aircraft. The CBI, the Confederation of British Industry, are calling upon the government for protection from foreign takeover bids. Dukakis is closing on Bush in the last few days of the US presidential election.
