After the stress of getting Daniel and Debbie out early today for their trips, during which time Daniel forgot to take his packed lunch, I deserted my paperwork and took Di and Della to Ely for a day trip. We had coffee by Riverside, lunch at Bonnets, and then looked at a range of boats in Ely Marina. News today of an IRA bombing attempt on the Protestants ‘Apprentice Boy’ march and more rioting in Ulster.
A rather trying time this morning. We had been put out by Diana’s need to get Daniel ready to leave by 5:40am and then Debbie by 7:30am! A rather poor night sleep ahead of this worry and then Daniel forgot to take his packed lunch in the melee which upset Diana. I decided to take her out for the day to make up for this. First, I watered all the conservatory and flower basket plants, fed the fish and birds before we went. I decided to take Di and Della to Ely to see the boats, have lunch at Bonnets and visit the shops.

We had morning coffee by the riverside and, leaving an insistent Della in the car to listen to her tapes, walked around the Ely Marina to see if there were any suitable boats for sale but there were none that could meet our exacting criteria. We had lunch and a rendezvous back at the car for an ice cream. A lovely outing that cheered Diana up greatly and she appreciated it. A pity that she felt poorly lately and had to go to bed with a hot water bottle whilst feeling cold. I sat up to write my journal and to see some of the day’s televised footage. It was the end of a day when I had made no attempt to catch up on my paperwork. I had a nice call of thanks and congratulations for my book from a descendant of the Bruce family, born at a School Lane cottage in 1929. News today was of an IRA bombing attempt on the Protestants ‘Apprentice Boy’ March but nobody was hurt. More rioting in Ulster and serious injuries
