Jack arrived and, though I was pleased to see him, he did seem to hang around possibly expecting another £20 "rent-money"

The start of my trip to Horning, leaving later than planned to see the girls off safely with Della no longer a problem. Once I had arrived, I did some varnishing on The Paxton Princess, hosted a visit from Jack and then alternated between mowing the lawns, varnishing and picking the grapes/blackberries there.

Several phones calls about the Liberal Democrat "Council of War" and was interviewed for the CNFM Cambridge commercial radio station accordingly. A warm bath for my aches and pains and to bed.

My planned early start did not materialise because, although I was early, my calls on Diana's time clashed with those of the children and it was 8.30am before I managed to leave. At least I saw the girls off safely and Della did not seem worried about things for once. The journey went without incident but there was plenty of road-works which delayed me and meant that it was after 10.30am before I arrived at Heronshaw. I took my time unpacking and setting up things and, by the time I had eaten a snack and taken refreshment it was 11.30am before I could start work. I first wiped over the wooden parts of the Paxton Princess and then sanded them down ready to put on some more varnish.

I was just about ready to start work when Jack arrived and, though I was pleased to see him, he did seem to hang around possibly expecting another £20 "rent-money" but I did not think it was time yet. Then there followed about seven hours of un-remitting physical work as I alternated varnishing with mowing the lawns and finally picking most of the grapes from the vine and some blackberries from the brambles that I had thus exposed. By the time I had cleared up and put everything away, it was about 8.00pm and I had not really stopped to eat anything apart from snacks. I had received and made several telephone calls from Heronshaw about the Liberal Democrat "Council of War" and was interviewed for the CNFM Cambridge commercial radio station. I tried writing up these last few days journal but ended up with computer problems and so went and soaked in a warm bath to ease my aches and pains before turning in to bed.
