Continuing to work hard on the boatshed staging as I coped with a steady stream of visitors, but I just about managed to finish fabricating the walkway.
The government reduced interest rates by two points again and, after four changes in 24 hours, we are back where we started again but Sterling is floating and ends up with a devaluation of more than 10%.
I was still asleep at 8.00am this morning when I received a telephone call and awoke with a start. This was the latest I had slept for a long time which just went to show how tired I had become. The call was from the electrician who had received my message that the "missing" wire had been found under the boat-shed. He will schedule some time and come over next week during daylight. Breakfast and then a shave before getting dressed and starting work. The pile of wood cladding was still drying and so I turned my mind to the staging around the entrances. After some planning, I decided to tackle the removable walkway inside the boatshed itself.

There then arrived the first of a stream of visitors who were to interrupt much of my day. Two visits from Doris next door wittering on about the charges to make up the road. I heard from the RHDRA treasurer today, Jim Holden, and he tells me that she is the only one who has not returned her authority to proceed. The postman came to deliver the letter. Jack came by and I gave him some money as I want him to continue to keep an eye on the place. The plumber, Dave Birchinall, stopped by having received my cheque to see if everything was all right. James Dunham from next door-but-one came by to introduce his brother and take a look. Earlier in the day when the bright and breezy day had dried out much of the wood, I tried to do some staining but found the timber discoloured with a faulty treatment process and difficult to get right. I opted to leave it for now to dry out further.
Despite all these. I managed to just about finish fabricating the walkway which is detachable in three pieces for when the size of the boat dock has to be maximised. I worked until dark and then, after covering up in view of the rain forecast. I went out to get some fried plaice and, after tea, had a bath, my journal and went to bed much earlier than of late. Today, the government reduced interest rates by two points again and, after four changes in 24 hours, we are back where we started again but Sterling is floating and ends up with a devaluation of more than 10%. The Chancellor will not resign, and the government is without a policy having staked its entire strategy on the exchange rate in a "one-club" economic policy.
