Implementing ECN Electronic Till Procedures for Redgrave Spar Post Office & Stores. The Ulster Forum met for business after a break for the summer but the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) and Sinn Féin (SF) did not attend..

I was implementing  a summary of some further till features which may be of use to running the store I had taken over. Some questions remain concerning the operation of these features, which had to be addressed to the till engineer.

Cashier signing on; Each cashier can be allocated a three digit code which must be entered at the beginning of their shift. At the end of the shift, the cashier can count up the amount of cash etc in the till and enter as a “pre-commit” figure.

In REG mode: [PRE-COMM] [[Amount] [CASH][Amount][CHEQUE] [Amount] [COUPON] [SUBTTL] [PRECOMM]. A cashier report is then printed which lists the cashiers identification code, the sales made by the cashier, the cash in drawer, the pre-commit total and the difference between these figures.

In X mode: [Cashier Code] [01] [X/Z]. Error Correct key - cancels, for example, the last positive account file access. e.g. Account number and previous balance is pressed, and account name displayed. If name is wrong, “Error Correct” can be pressed to return to sub-total status. Question: Which is “Error Correct” key?

Training Mode Operation - The till can be operated in training mode, in which case, no transactions are added to the daily totals. x/z reports, programming and manager functions are not allowed in training mode.

Training mode is entered in X-position, and can be used in REG or X-position. In X-position, [SUBTTL] [4 digit password] [VLD] Question: What is our password? To exit training mode, use “0000” as the password. Pick Up - Till pick up is used to collect cash/cheques etc out of the till, eg for banking during the day.

Sign on in REG mode, turn key to X-position,. [Amount] [PICKUP] [CASH, CHEQUE]. Question: Which is the [PICKUP] button? How would EPOS treat this procedure?

This would probably not be a great benefit over the daily cash reconcillation procedure, where cash banked is reconciled with the total amount on hand at the end of the day.
