Depressing ending to a day of Byte Shop meetings as the Coventry’s are resigning again and I conclude that leadership is a lonely and unappreciated role, when profits are shared with no gratitude being voiced
Early to the office to complete preparations for today’s Byte Shop meetings. The formal business complete but little else besides due to the timely arrival of a message from Gordon Coventry that he was resigning (again) from Glasgow because Adrienne could no longer be Company Secretary.
Agreement that the proceedings are confirmed anyway and after by phone to learn that he is still unsure and all in disarray. A very frustrating note on which to end a year and after long conversations to try to discover how much of all this is a personality conflict with me and how much purely between the Coventrys and the organisation. In the end, I go home early without briefcase or work and am disappointed in my colleagues for retaining doubts. If any others realised how difficult things are to retain a sense of balance and judgement on these matters without any counsel that can really be trusted for impartial advice. Bed on time with a less than sociable family on this rather depressing day. I wonder whether it is really worth it all. Today I gave out share warrants to most employees under the Profit Sharing Scheme and received not a single word of thanks.
