Dividing my time between BMMG business and supervising the gardener as a UK railway strike is now planned and the world is full of terrorist outrages
A good lay in until 7.30am and Diana prepares our drinks before feeding the baby. Breakfast, a wash and shave, then to get dressed and arrive at my new office at 9.30am. a whole host of phone calls on private and BMMG business, too numerous to mention and, after lunch, to completely update my electronic diary for all of Daniel’s school holidays. The gardener today completed an excellent week’s work and our gardens are in better shape than for a long time with flower beds hoed, grass cut and edged, shrubs trimmed and all of the rubbish removed. The lawns are still looking very white and sparse and need a lot more rain.
Arrangements in hand to get my new telephone line, Prestel connection and stockbroking and telex facilities installed by next Tuesday. Also to get a new office desk and chair to work on efficiently. Time today to talk to the BMMG Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Secretariat and review the membership applications. There is every chance of a few more members which will enhance the stability and credibility of the BMMG tremendously. Also to talk to Peter Smith and several Comart Executives to see how things are settling down – a bit bumpily it seems. News today of a railway strike planned next month over rail cut backs and economies. Also of the repercussions of separate terrorist outrages in Madras (25 killed in airport bomb), El Salvador (bank siege surrender) and Paris (end of plane highjack) as the weekend hails. In the city, the Jaguar share issue was grossly oversubscribed – perhaps as much as eight times. In the Olympic Games, our sprinters qualify well for the latter rounds of the competition. In a very exciting climax to the three day equestrian event, Mark Todd of New Zealand just won the gold individual and the British team were only a few points short of the team gold after some harsh American judging in the dressage. The weather today much duller and cooler than of late and a welcome relief.
