To London on another hot day for the Council Meeting for the BMMG and then lunch with Nigel as the new Chairman before catching up with messages and watching TV football as excessive police behaviour in the miners’ dispute is reported to the DPP
A slow start to another hot day and then off by car to Stevenage and on by train to Kings Cross. By coincidence John Lamb and Paul Coombe were also on the 9.06 train, going to a CCTA briefing on confidential development plans. For me I took a taxi from Kings X (after collecting some money from the nearest Barclays Bank and paying in my expenses cheque) to White Lion Street N1 and the offices of Shelton Instruments where we were holding a Council Meeting of the BMMG.
A painful meeting in the hot and humid conditions with coffee being served in mugs, a common preoccupation with car parking risks from active wardens and hard work in achieving concrete results on LAN’s and membership progress. Eventually to lunch with Nigel Smith, the new BMMG Chairman, and to hint that I will be arranging my affairs to have more time for Industry Politics. By taxi, train and car back to Little Paxton and Grove House late in the afternoon and to take some pains over catching up with my messages and mail.
Home early to watch the Spain vs W. Germany European Cup Tie and to see Germany eliminated 1-0. News today of more fights on miners picket lines and of the decision to refer excessive police behaviour to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Rows with the steel unions over the potential arrangements to close down the steel production and supply safety coal only after one blast furnace was cracked. Weather forecasts of cooler temperatures to come.
