A hot and sticky but less tense and more enjoyable day (as John Lamb now takes up more of the strain) and an evening walk with Diana to St Neots Common as there is more industrial confrontation over the miners and the Liberal/SDP Alliance get no Euro seats for their 17% of the vote
Up at the normal time, a breakfast of toast and apple juice and then a walk to my car at Grove House. A quiet morning, making and receiving telephone calls, dealing with the reduced mail of my new situation, and planning. I resolve how to handle the entry of Comart Computers Ltd into the Pension Scheme, the forward programme of events for the BMMG Committees, and the details of the deal that will now be offered to Peter King and probably accepted. I hear that Geoff Lynch had a good meeting with Kode last night and will sign his newly drafted agreement on Friday.
After lunch, I take the company books across to Little End Road and work with June for an hour or two minuting the statutory meetings and catching up with returns to the Company Registrar. Then to sit down with John Lamb and resolve David Biggins’ and Derek Morgan’s reviews and also decide a policy on the future premises expansion of CCL. John is visibly suffering from the increased tension and responsibility of his new position and is losing sleep; but I seem to cheer up proceedings a little.
The day is oppressively hot and sticky and all buildings are suffering accordingly but the weather forecast heralds cloud and rain in a day or twos time. Home early to tea with Daniel and then to take an evening stroll with Diana to the common to watch the radio control aeroplanes.
News today of more industrial and political confrontation with the coal strike as the reason. Also of the final returns for the European Elections which show many more Labour MEPs but not a single representation for the 17% of electors who voted for the Liberal/SDP Alliance.
