Mothers Day – Making the effort to get out for a meal with Diana and the family in the morning and then restful day recovering in the afternoon as probing satellites monitoring Haley’s Comet are assisted to locate the centre by the USSR probe, Vega
Awoke early to decide to get up and prepare Diana some morning coffee. Took it to her, chatted a while, and then went back to the kitchen for morning tea and other drinks. Daniel and Deborah came to join Di in bed and celebrated Mother’s Day by giving her hand-made cards and presents of talcum powder and bath salts. Della later joined us, so that it was quite a family event. Then Di went down to cook some fried breakfast for me and I stayed in bed for a while to read the paper. I am preparing for the end of tax year adjustments and have as my main priority the final transfer to avoid Capital Transfer Tax.
At 11.30 it was time to get up and washed. I was in such a state after several days that I washed my hair, shaved and dressed to make myself presentable. Locked up the house, set the full alarm for the first time in three weeks, and then joined Di and Della in the car. We drove on to St Neots Evangelical Church, where I met Pat and John, collected Debbie from Sunday School and thanked them for looking after her every Sunday. Drove on to Gary Skinner’s house to collect Daniel after a morning’s play, to find they had put their house on the market, but intend to stay in the area. With a full car, Di driving, Debbie in the front, and me in the back with Della and Daniel, we drove down the A1 to arrive at the Happy Eater by 1.10. Being Mother’s Day, I had made a special effort to get out for a lunch to save Di from the task of washing up. She received daffodils from Debbie’s church and a pot plant from the Happy Eater. Home after with Di well satisfied and spent the afternoon peacefully sitting in the lounge, watching recorded rugby and then live cup football on TV. West Ham beat Manchester United 2-0, which was fine. Tea with the others and then helped Di recharge the water softener with salt, as Daniel brought in two sacks from the garage. To the lounge TV and watched an old Tony Hancock comedy, with him as a Jury Foreman and Sid James in a supporting role. Then up to bed with Di at the end of a tiring day, after a restless night. I had improved today, cough under a little more control – but I am still very week, with tenderness about my midriff. The day was a little cooler than recently and the rain came late in the day and into the darkness. Main news tonight is of a train crash at Buxton in Derbyshire, as two passenger trains collided head on. One is killed and 20 passengers are injured. The French Government has rejected claims of extortion for four French hostages by Islamic terrorists in Beirut. This in spite of next Sunday’s French General Election. Elsewhere, in Southern Lebanon, an Israeli soldier was killed and five others injured in a bomb attack. More widespread rioting in South Africa. The Queen’s tour of Adelaide was delayed by high winds affecting the Royal Yacht and barge. In the 2nd test, England are now struggling in their second innings after a large score in the W Indian first innings. Probing satellites are monitoring Haley’s Comet and the USSR probe, Vega, is pinpointing its nucleus so that the British Satellite can get even closer next Tuesday, in a good example of international cooperation.
