Some family time before success in getting my items on the HDC agenda and then a pleasant afternoon at Little Paxton School fete where Debbie could meet and interact with her old school friends before some time with Mike Pope and my reading and journal. A British –flagged Esso ship being attacked by Iranian gunboats in the Gulf, The Labour Party is now having its leadership election and England’s football youth supporters are in Europe and behaving disgracefully
We lay late in bed sleeping after our late night and repelled all boarding children until after 9.00am. I have taken to having ‘french toast’, which is a grilled bread & butter sandwich. I used to have this as a child and I now have to make it for myself. Daniel says his physics exam yesterday was ‘remedial’; his form of abuse for standards so low that you would have to be of poor accomplishment to fail it. Took some time reading my mail and other things, before going out to feed the ducks and doves and survey for moles (no sign of any). Then I came in for a coffee and wrote up yesterday’s journal. I had managed to get the Leisure & Amenity Chairman (Joyce Day) to agree for me to talk to the Paxton Pits item on the L&A agenda next week, even though I am not on the committee, which is good. Also my two suggestions for the Consultative Group Committee have been accepted. In late morning today, I locked up the house and we all walked to Little Paxton School for the School Association Fete.
Today’s weather was chilly, with a faint feel of rain in the air, but a stiff breeze kept the field dry, even if the experience was not too pleasant. We had lunch at the school in the ‘Grasshopper’ eating place (put together for the occasion to raise funds) then Di went to the Brownie’s stall as a helper and I took the girls round the stalls etc. Spent money at each of many of them and so did the kids. A lot of trouble had been expended to organise the day and, although the attendance was only moderate, at least it did not rain, and the takings were quite good. I particularly appreciated the school children’s May pole and country dancing and, when the invitation was extended for Dads to join in, Debbie and I took part, which meant that in the ring dance she met all of her old friends! Mike Pope was there as a School Governor, helping out behind the bar and later he came back home with me and we traded local government news and matters. After tea (comprising mainly tidbits bought at the fete) I settled the birds down and then caught up on some reading before my journal. The news today was of a British –flagged Esso ship being attacked by Iranian gunboats in the Gulf. The Labour Party is now having its leadership election jostling for position, with Hattersley’s deputy-leadership the vulnerable office. England’s football youths are on the continent for the start of the European Nation Cup tournament and there are already reports of arrests after drunken behaviour and disturbances.
