A warm and fine Fathers' Day attending Nigel's Hail Weston Fun Run hosting and driving Sir Anthony Grant, our Member of Parliament, as a member of the Official party to the chagrin of the three Tory District Councillors. Di joined us later after Debbie’s hack and we dropped by Dad’s grave on the way home and then welcomed Charles and Chrisula with their new baby Crystal Louise Jackson.

The weather was still warm and fine today and ideal for Nigel's event. His company, Tensor Computers, had organised and sponsored a village sporting and social event on Hail Weston Playing Field. I got across there by 10.00am and helped with the reception of Sir Anthony Grant, our Member of Parliament, at Hail Weston House for coffee and escorted him throughout the morning as Nigel was running about organising the event. The races were a mile as a Fun Run and then the more serious 12 kilometre race. These were duly started by Sir Anthony giving a speech and then Nigel setting off a maroon which rose like a rocket and exploded with a loud bang. There is little that Nigel organises that does not involve the use of fireworks as he has always been a maniac pyrotechnic! The funny thing was that there were three Tory District Councillors there and they were puzzled that I was driving "their" MP around and being with the official party, whilst they were running and taking part!

I spared him any political questions and just chatted socially, before driving him back and seeing him away safely. A little later, Di and the girls arrived and we sat and had a sausage roll and a shandy and stayed a while to relax in the sun. Debbie had gone on another good hack this morning after helping Sue Usher around the place. Then we dropped by the cemetery on the way home. I had been thinking of Dad since the children each gave me a card this morning, and it was sad to see his grave but I wanted to go there. The flowers and plants are parched, but we took a few weeds off of the grave and tidied it up a bit. Quickly home where we were expecting Di's brother and family who stayed the rest of the afternoon and much of the evening. They brought their new baby - now called Crystal Louise - and the girls loved to see it. I watered the garden again tonight before coming in and updating my journal for these last three days.
Diplomatic peace continues to break out between Lithuania and the Kremlin as the Baltic State considers a "moratorium" rather than a "suspension" of the declaration of independence so that talks can take place. The authorities have had a breakthrough in tracking down an IRA team that has been killing and bombing British services personnel on the continent of Europe. A 23-year-old woman, Donna Maguire, has been captured in a Belgian wood after the local residents spotted a group taking target practice. A male companion was also caught after slipping across the border to Holland; but a third accomplice fled. Ms Maguire was already wanted for questioning about the bombing of the 12th Armoured Brigade HQ at Osnabruck and the murder of Cpl Steve Smith in Hanover last July. In Rumania, the protest demonstrations are starting up again now that the miner vigilantes have returned to the provinces. There are more problems in the City as certain major companies announce profit shortfalls and executive heads roll.
