Another cruise from Naburn to Kings Staithe again, this time we went into the old "motte and bailey" castle  and then to visit the Castle Museum where its exhibition was huge with special displays on the Civil War and fashions and customs through the ages.

Then Daniel took Angela back to the railway station for the start of her journey back to Ware and I started planning the following week's cruises. More clouds in the evening as we expected the weather to change over the next few days

We slept well and I let the family have a lay in until 7.00am when I put on the Radio 3 weather forecast. We all had showers in the marina this morning and then breakfast sitting together instead of trying to do so on the way to York from Naburn. It was another warm and sunny morning, and the only difference was that there were a number of other boat-owners about; it being a Sunday. In fact we even had some competition for the showers. Eventually got to our Kings Staithe mooring spot around 11.00am and then went into the old "motte and bailey" castle and then straight on to the Castle Museum expecting to get a coffee shortly afterwards.

In the event, the castle exhibition was huge with special displays on the Civil War and fashions and customs through the ages. We broke off for what turned out to be lunch in castle tea-rooms and then spent much of the afternoon completing the tour until we returned, exhausted with heat and effort, to the boat. I still found the experience very rewarding for all that, but now realise that this museum is really intended for a complete day out. We had tea in another cafe and then Daniel took Angela back to the railway station for the start of her journey back to Ware and I started planning the following week's cruises. The family joined in this exercise, and I telephoned the Selby lockkeeper for his advice before we decided to cruise down from Naburn to Selby from 4.00pm to 6.00pm tomorrow and then take the canal system to link up with the River Trent to save further grief in the tideway.

Thereafter, we will miss out Nottingham and Newark and concentrate on seeing Lincoln and Boston before going round by sea to Wells and then on to Lowestoft. Then, it being much cooler than in the earlier heat of the day, we all took a gentle stroll around York and had tea at McDonalds. Back to Naburn Marina with Diana with Daniel at the helm and I used the last shore power we are expecting for a few days to update my journal and defrost the fridge whilst the girls had a shower in the marina. More clouds this evening and I expect that the weather will be changing in the next few days which is a pity, but we have had the best of it so far.
