More Geneva talks on Bosnia but the reality is that the Serbs have won the civil war and terms are being discussed for partition of Sarajevo that suit them
It was my fate to spend another day working at home whilst Debbie continued her water sports week and Della and Daniel joined Diana for a trip to Cambridge to see her Mum and Dad. It was another glorious day of almost unbroken sun and very warm air into the bargain. Diana woke us all quite early again and Daniel joined us for breakfast when he was persuaded to make the trip to Cambridge. He behaved well with Della, by all accounts, and Charles and Norma were very pleased to see them both.

I had a morning and afternoon of attending to administrative and trust matters but made no further progress in the purchase of the latest properties. A long job reviewing all the children’s investments so as to be able to decide what ones to liquidate to finance their property purchases and then calls to stockbroker Mike Truswell to do the deals. I opted to sell Argyle having disapproved of their policy of paying the Directors large increases, making donations to the Conservative Party and coming regularly for rights issues. I sold Fisons because, in my view, it had abandoned its core horticultural business for which it was renown and unsuccessfully tried to become a drug company.
Complex National Savings transactions as well and then the afternoon ended with an hour's dash to St Neots to develop van photographs for the insurers and to put a variety of National Savings and building society transactions into process. A rush home for tea for which Diana cooked a fine meal using our home-grown runner beans, tomatoes and the blackberries that the girls had picked in Norfolk. I saw Nigel in town and he popped in on his way out for a mystery date "playing tennis" and got me to sign his latest shotgun application for him. Two walks for Sam today but they were only of 40mins or so duration and did little to quieten him down.
He had some long sleeps in the sunshine during the day but, as the girls played noisily with their friends in Willow Close this evening, he was disappointed not to be able to join them. I stole a little time today to watch the World Athletics Championship in Stuttgart but was disappointed to find that the British contestants were not doing well.
My day ended with my journal and an attempt to archive the complete month of July. More Geneva talks on Bosnia but the reality is that the Serbs have won the civil war and terms are being discussed for partition of Sarejevo that suit them. In my view, the world community should have kept out of the civil war in Yugoslavia as we only served to prolong the agony.
