Visits with dog Sam and family to the Holkham Country Fair and then to Wells-next-the-Sea. Sam was exhausted by the end of the day, but the Discovery worked well.
Greg Norman pipped Nick Faldo to the golf British Open title and the floods in the United States got progressively worse with the Mississippi in full flood
The day was under threat from rain spreading from the west but, in the event, it stayed fine for our day out. I had cancelled our trip to Wroxham Barns and took the family instead to Holkham Country Fair in Holkham, near to Wells, which proved to be very enjoyable. First I had to feed and exercise Sam, after he woke us up quite early again. I tried quite hard to get the family out early and we left a little before 10.00am.

Our car journey across country in Norfolk went very well and we arrived at Holkham in good time to get settled before the main arena events. Leading Sam around between the displays and stalls, we found something for everyone with Debbie taking part in traversing and Army Assault Course; reluctantly at first and then more enthusiastically a second time. There was a fairground and music of The Scotts Guards to Household Cavalry displays of the Blues and Royals. A parade of vintage vehicles caught my attention as did a falconry display by Jemima Parry-Jones but of most interest was a display of German Shorthaired Pointers by some friends of mine from the Eastern Counties Branch of the G.S.P. Club.
We left in mid-afternoon and drove on to Wells where Diana and I walked Sam along the wooded sand dunes whilst the girls played on the beach below. Into the town centre for tea and a walk along the quay looking at the fishing boats for me whilst the girls played on the amusements. Sam was exhausted by the time we got back. There had been so much stimulation for him today that he had not rested until the evening and the experience would have been very good for him.
The Discovery did not falter today but I will look into the petrol cap situation tomorrow. Greg Norman pipped Nick Faldo to the British Open title today. The floods in the United States get progressively worse with the Mississippi in full flood as the world's climate still seems to be full of instability and natural disasters.
