With Nigel for a planned shopping trip for guns to the Greater London area, having got up even earlier and attended to Sam. I could not get my preferred Remington 243, but Nigel bought a Parke Hale and two microscopes for his biology hobby
Nigel was round quite early to pick me up for a shopping trip to the Greater London area, but I had got up even earlier and attended to Sam and had him fed and exercised ready to spend the day out in the garden for a change. He survived the experience and did not worry Diana and the family very much which was good news for the forthcoming couple of weeks that Daniel is due to look after him. Nigel did the driving and we arrived at the gun shop in Barnet just after they had opened at 9.30am. It was surprisingly busy, and we had to share the time of the proprietor with half a dozen others before we were attended to.

He had five .243 rifles but I did not fancy any of them after having handled the Remington in Norwich. They were all clumsy and heavy to my taste but Nigel quite liked one of them. I also looked at the .22's and could have actually bought a BRNO long rifle with a moderator if it had not already been sold. We broke off to drive across London to see a microscope service engineer from whom Nigel eventually bought two costing a total of £1,100 in cash! One was a Nikkon binocular compound microscope with five object lenses, 1000X magnification and many other features and the other a simple low-powered one for dissection etc and handling specimens other than in slides. The Indian proprietor was out for a while making us wait but we used the time in having a pub meal and chat.
The pity was that there were very few gun shops in the south having any stock of .243's and, try as we would, we could not find any other shops to go to and so we eventually went back to The gun shop where Nigel bought his Parker Hale .243 rifle with two detachable magazines and some RWS cartridges. We had to make the journey home in rush hour and I then my tea before taking Sam out for a walk. He was quite well-behaved and has responded very well when I give him biscuit titbits but still eats tissue and the mess of other dogs given half a chance which is very off-putting.
