Our usual Cambridge trip to meet up with Di’s parents before visiting local farms to talk about shooting and crop protection and then a Bedford cinema trip to see On Deadly Ground a Seigel/Cane film which was far too violent and crude for our taste
After a good night’s sleep, we found the day mild again but wet and rainy to start with. This did not put me or Sam off of embarking on our morning training run and I took him straight to the gravel pits to do some waterwork. I am still struggling to get his first entry right without delay or deviation, but he did a lot of good work afterwards including one at distance.

Back to dry him off and then I got ready to leave with Diana for Cambridge where we met her parents in Eadon Lilley's for morning coffee. They were off to Spain and then us to France and so we will not see them for a while, but Norma seemed a lot better after her recent respiratory problems. We spent some time in Heffers and then to the barbers for a well-executed haircut, even if it did cost me £5.70. I drove us home via Coton where I treated Diana to a nice pub lunch of home-made lasagne for her and beef and mushroom pie for me. Across to John Osborne of Brook Farm in the afternoon and a chat to him about shooting and crop protection.
We are both happy that there is not much pigeon shooting needed on his rape now, but we will keep an eye out. He is bothered by the geese, and I told him about the seasons and will be getting a chance to shoot them after September. On to Molesworth for some more quartering and Sam did not do quite so well as of late but at least his retrieving was back up to scratch and his obedience passable. This evening to Bedford with Diana to see On Deadly Gound a Seigel/Cane film which was far too violent and crude for our taste. The soundtrack was also far too loud as if the audience were deaf.
