The drive from San Diego to an expensive Travelodge, Fisherman's Wharf, in San Francisco walking with Di along Fisherman's Wharf which was very busy with tourists. I was pining for Wiggly
This motel was comfortable for the night, and we slept well. Both rooms had just been renovated with new carpets and furnishings and it seemed that we were the first guests to occupy them, which was nice.

Diana was the first awake this morning and keenest to get going and we were soon ready and packed to drive across the other side of road to find the Coco's restaurant for breakfast.
In complete contrast to the last one in San Diego Convention area, this one was efficient and good and we were soon served and ready to go. Even so, Della played us up and had her second smack of the trip.
The journey went well with few delays, and we stopped a couple of times; once for coffee, donuts and use of a toilet and again at a McDonalds for something more substantive.
I ate a soup and a chef's salad and the family, burghers before slipping out to try to call Wiggly again at 9.45pm UK time but she was not in. The run into San Francisco went equally well and we arrived in mid-afternoon to book a hotel.
We found our normal Fisherman's Wharf Travelodge busy and insisting on room rates of $109 for each twin-bedded room. Despite advertising $89 rates in their brochures for April, they were on summer rates already.
There were other hotels advertising in California Traveller for much less, but we booked in at the Travelodge for one night as Di likes it there and it is most central. Unhappily for me, the phones were hard-wired and I could not use my modem.
I tried to call Wiggly later (to coincide with 7.00am Monday her time, but her answering machine kept intercepting my calls and I resolved to change hotels in the morning to one that would be cheaper and accept my equipment.
The evening meal at Johnny Rocket's coffee bar with Diana and the girls and then a walk with Di along Fisherman's Wharf to find it very busy with tourists this Sunday.
Awake late, the room hot and smoky and my mind full of hotel and relationship problems, but eventually to sleep after switching the ice machine off in the corridor and opening the room windows wide.
I found the room and bed smoky and hot, even with the sliding door wide open, making it uncomfortable to sleep. I went downstairs unbeknown to Di and tried calling Wiggly but found no reply; even though it was 7.00am in the morning her time which was a bit upsetting!
