to The House of Commons at Westminster for a LibDem reception on the terrace

I joined Diana for our weekly visit to Cambridge, and then visited Glisson Road for election materials before collecting Wiggly and driving to The House of Commons at Westminster for a LibDem reception on the terrace and ending the evening at The Chelsea Jazz Club

This was one of my busiest days and latest nights for a long time as I kept both Diana and Wiggly happy and Sam content.

Following our joint counselling meeting yesterday, it has been so sad because Di had been trying very hard to resolve our differences and keep us together.

After years of denial, she now accepts that there had been faults on both sides in our relationship and that her lack of affection and expression of love had been a major stumbling block.

Her never making the first move in cuddling, lovemaking or conciliation after rows etc. had been intolerable to me and her periods of self-reliant silences, stomps and non-communication would have tested a saint.

It made me very vulnerable to the affections of a hot female, particularly as Diana had also put on weight, resisted my encouragement for her to slim and lost all interest in sex.

The sadness comes with the realisation on both of our parts that this has come far too late. I thought that she did not care about me but, in truth, she does love me. She said that there has been nobody else and that there never will.

Worst of all, she claims to be in constant pain and discomfort from her irritable bowel syndrome, made worse now by the worry and stress of the break-up of our marriage. Lastly, she says she does not sleep at all.

After walking the dog and the girls to school, I joined her for the weekly journey to Cambridge. We met her parents who seemed well. I had received a stroppy Email message from Wiggly who had objected to my change of plans for the evening and I had to get away to make a telephone call to console her.

This done, I drove across the City to the LibDem HQ at Glisson Road where Alan Charlesworth met me by prior arrangement to help copy off the new posters for the Eynesbury re-election.

We had collected the artwork from John Roscoe on our way out and this meant that I could have the job done and posters back to Sally the same day. A little look in Evesham Micros but they did not have a laptop with integrated CDROM and even then their machines were too expensive.

Rendezvoused with Diana back at Trinity Street but, the area being very congested with tourists, we opted to drive on and stop at a Little Chef for lunch on the way back, Diana off to her afternoon Yoga and me to come home, pack, load Sam aboard and then head off.

My first stop was Eynesbury where I walked Sam at the Coneygear and then changed into a blue and red outfit for my visit to Westminster. Then the journey on to Sharnbrook where I collected Wiggly from work so that we could set off across country to the M1 and then on to London.

The traffic worked quite well such that we could get into Westminster and parked up in a side street in plenty of time to walk and feed Sam and then walk over to the House of Commons for the PCA briefing and reception.

The Parliamentary Candidates Association has as its remit the fostering of relations between selected candidates and the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary party.

This was the annual briefing and reception on the terrace but, on this occasion, in celebration of the "stupendous" success of the party in Local Government elections in May, successful councillors and organisers had also been invited.

It was Wiggly's first experience of the House and she was fascinated to hear the briefing speeches of Party Leader Paddy Ashdown, President Bob McClennon, Defence and Scottish Spokesman Mensies Campbell, Simon Hughes and many others.

We drank white wine on the terrace and she rehearsed her ambitions to become an M.P. I took her along to the Strangers Gallery to see the last half hour's speeches on the Adjournment Debate and then the Sargent at Arms removed the Mace, the Deputy Speaker left the chamber and the few M.P's that were there followed.

A drink in the Westminster Arms nearby and then back to the car where Sam was fine and had behaved himself whist we had been away.

he drive to the 606 Jazz Club in Betts Road Chelsea for a pre-booked meal, some more drinks and a session of a trio comprising a girl singer/pianist with a base and drums making up the three.

The drive home to Eynesbury, arriving at after 2.00am and even then we had sex for the best part of another hour so that it was 3.00am before we got down to sleep ahead of having to wake up at 7.00am!
