Wiggly crashed the Discovery.
Wiggly crashed the Discovery.

Driving to Glasgow for the Liberal Democrat Party Conference when Wiggly crashed the Discovery.

She then saved the day with her trusty membership of the RAC, whose long suffering staff first recovered the Discovery from the carriageway and then relayed it all the way back to Sawtry.

Then back home to collect Wiggly's Astra to resume a very tiring journey all the way up to Glasgow for a sound nights sleep in a nice room at the Ambassador Hotel in Kelvin Drive.

We were soon ready to get going having only to prepare ourselves and eat breakfast whilst Sam was enjoying his holiday in Wymondham.

We were tired after our recent activities, being anxious to get these out of the way before taking our week in Glasgow at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference.

I was rather grumpy with Wiggly and she gave as good as she got and we had our biggest argument since meeting but made it up at the filling station.

I then got her to drive whilst I sat in the back and created the rest of the Organiser Money file that would help me manage the Redgrave finances.

I had worked on for a couple of hours and Wiggly had driven us to a point north of Birmingham on the M6 when she was then involved in an accident just south of the Keel Service Area.

The motorway was very congested with Sunday traffic and close to capacity when a typical concertina move took place and got out of hand with vehicles screeching to a halt in the outside lane.

By now Wiggly must have become tired and was not concentrating or looking ahead enough. Either that or she was pushing along much too fast, anxious to get the journey over, after I had already warned her not to drive so fast.

In the event, she failed to stop the car, or to recover from an uncontrolled four wheel skid and crashed badly into a small saloon Peugout full of a family and children.

I was first alerted by her scream but could do little from the back seat apart from keep her calm as we slid into the other vehicle.

The Discovery had body panel damage and some distortion to its front which made it unsafe to drive which was a serious set back for us but we were most worried about the family in the other car which had been written off in the impact.

Though shocked, frightened and bruised they were alright and just had the problem of being stranded midway between London and Manchester in a friends car which had been written off.

Police soon arrived but were persuaded to take no action and then Wiggly saved the day with her trusty membership of the RAC, whose long suffering staff first recovered the Discovery from the carriageway and then relayed it all the way back to Sawtry and RJ Land Rovers before dropping us off at Hail Weston House.

Fortunately at my insistence we had jump started Wiggly's Astra again first thing in the morning and left it with Nigel and so could resume our journey in that. Nigel and his girlfriend Sue gave us a welcome cup of tea but we found ourselves back where we had started ten hours after first setting off.

It was a very tiring journey all the way up to Glasgow where we could only arrive about 2.30am but though I was virtually asleep by the time we got there Wiggly had overcome her trauma to be driving again.
