More restful time on a damp but clearing family day as the children behave better and we go shopping in Cambridge but sadness as the Provisional IRA Harrods car bomb kills seven people and injures scores of others
A long and restful morning in bed catching up with reading of the newspapers and trade journals generally. Not to rise until just before 12.00 noon and then everyone much amused as I duff over Daniel for his toothbrush being dry until I realise that he had, in fact, cleaned his teeth many hours earlier! Up quickly and off with the family by car to The Happy Eater for lunch. Father Christmas visited the tables and presented Debbie with a yoyo and Daniel with a puzzle.

Progress sorting Xitan issues with Geoff Lynch and then frustration with the casual commitment of Comart Directors as the company’s losses in one month offset a year’s progress and inventory soars by £100K
On time to the office and to finish clearing the payroll information. Geoff Lynch arrives early to go through a host of reviews and personnel discussions and a large rise agreed for Jane Dards, Xitan’s number two but policies held intact on yearly reviews for the probationary employees who have now become permanent employees. The mail to clear, and then to obtain a brief on Granite Chips Ltd of Aberdeen.

Client meeting with Southampton Byte Shop on a mild and damp day to resolve quality issues with Gangnail and then back to Comart to check on accounts progress and approve the payroll as NGA calls off mass picketing for lack of TUS support
Early to the office to collect papers for today’s visit to Gangnail. Sharp words with John over policies and off by car to Fareham. The journey in wet weather through a crowded London North Circular Road was tortuous and I arrived at the Little Chef rendezvous just on time to meet Russ Wilmott of the Southampton Byte Shop. A tactics discussion and then on to Gangnail Software to meet Technical Director, Peter Jackson, to hear a tale of sorry reliability from our products last summer.

Long and Tiring day of Directorial hassle and agreements as the government wins its adherence to new Employment legislation and the TUC decides not to support the NGA and thus breaking the law
Another long and tiring day starting with a fair conflict on the question of Directors supporting the Company’s Dinner Dance. But it seems that I can get the Directors to attend en masse. Then a hard session on the administration of Service Contracts with sales, marketing, service and financial management where the detail of service administration was settled. Hectic activity on phone calls, correspondence, paperwork and a long session with David Fear to set certain matters to rights.

To Manchester by car for Byte Shop meetings and then home via John’s for dinner as the NGA dispute twists and turns and bombs go off in Oxford and London
Up on time but little time to wash and snatch a quick breakfast before leaving early. By car to collect John from Rushden and then on to Manchester’s Britannia Hotel for a Byte Shop regional review meeting. A difficult journey due to the very harsh frost which made minor roads slippery. To start our meeting on time but without Derek who reported sick with sickness and diarrhoea and was unable to come.
