Tired after a late night waking up on a bitterly-cold day suffering from a cold but pleased to greet Stephen Fields (who tended my poorly Ohgon Koi carp and took swabs of its infection away for analysis) and the Frost tradesmen (who fitted the required stability struts). Di’s parents then arrived for lunch to celebrate Charles Snr’s 72nd Birthday and then the fireplace contractor arrived to fit Diana’s new marble floor slab and untidy both the lounge and my office in the process. In yesterday’s by-elections, Labour and the Tories retained their seats but the centre vote was split between the SDP and Democrats. The Duke of Edinburgh controversially bows before the Japanese Emperor’s tomb after a Shinto ceremonial, once a sign of the Japanese militaristic faith.
I had left my bedtime far too late again last night and was very tired as a result this morning. I was also still suffering from my bad cold (the same as Diana) which made me feel worse. I attended my plants and fish in the conservatory for a while after a late breakfast and then settled down at my desk to do some work. I had a variety of the usual interruptions but managed to do some of the editing of the farms chapter before the fish doctor, Stephen Fields, arrived at 11 AM. He had contacted the AWA Brampton fish diseases Centre, collected two glass slides for taking swabs from the fish, and brought equipment and antibiotics to be ready to treat the fish. He anaesthetised it with a chemical, injected a broad range antibiotic near its caudal fin, swabbed the wound and revive the fish and put it back.

Resuming work on my ‘Farms’ chapter of my book on a bright but very cold morning, collecting Debbie and taking her horse-riding, where she did well, and then attending a fairly poorly-attended evening Parish Council Amenities meeting. An ‘animal rights’ bomb is set off by extremists and two constituencies went to the polls today
I slept well enough last night and then tried to resume work on my history book after breakfast. A succession of interruptions diverted me, including a visit from a travelling picture salesman but at least I started a new chapter on the farms of Little Paxton into which I’m not only putting the Grove section but all of the other farms as well, which is a more sensible way of doing it. After lunch, another couple of hours working until it was time to go and get Debbie for her horse riding. She rode well enough and becomes weekly more confident and able now that she is getting more practice and lessons.

I was feeling shivery and heavily congested with cold after a poor night and my Ohgon was even worse; exuding a septic puss from the swollen cheek and eye and more treatment is needed. I still attended District Council meeting but stopped off on the way and saw Mr Forscutt and the Norris Museum about photographs. This evening, I finished amending, pasting up and reprinting the Mill chapter and so can now start on the Grove Farm chapter tomorrow. An army minibus driver was shot dead in Londonderry. A freighter sank in the mid-Atlantic with the loss of 17 crew today being out of the reach of rescue helicopters. The stock exchange fell well back.
I had a poor night, feeling chilly and congested at the same time and was then tired this morning, feeling shivery and heavy with cold. I therefore decided just to dress for breakfast without shaving. I checked the fish and the Ohgon seems to be exuding a septic puss from the swollen cheek and eye. The fish doctor telephoned and called round this morning and was not sure what to do as he had not come across the condition before. In the end, we cleaned the water and added today the salt solution and tomorrow he will return, and we might give it an injection and get the Brampton AWA Fish Diseases Centre to analyse a sample of the puss. I could not finish my Mill chapter but got the draft printed out this morning. After lunch, I showered, shaved and changed and went to the District Council meeting but stopped off on the way and saw Mr Forscutt and the Norris Museum about photographs. The District Council meeting was workmanlike enough, but I was not prepared enough to make it very effective. This evening, I finished amending, pasting up and reprinting the Mill chapter and so can now start on the Grove Farm chapter tomorrow.

A better night and start on another cool but sunny day, working on my Paper Mill section until taking Debbie for her horse-riding session and then attending a Priory Doom Meeting as Michael Pope could not. My Ohgon is looking poorer by the day. Labour opposition sponsored a debate in the Commons today, criticising the government for not protecting the health of the public, Iran retaliate against the European 17 who have reduced diplomatic representation and the ‘Mandela Bodyguards’ have been charged with murder.
It was not such a bad night and I started the day quite well. After breakfast, on another cool but sunny day, I spent the morning in my office working on the layout of my Paper Mill section but was struggling to finish this chapter as I intended. After lunch, I worked on but by 3pm it was time to go and pick Debbie up and take her to her horse riding. The dreamer forgot all about it and was in the school bus queue when I hooked out! She had an hour’s group session with some younger girls as Fiona’s daughter was supposedly ill. I got home for an hour or two but then had to set off to a Priory doom meeting as Michael could not go. I arranged for him to organise a public meeting in April which will further help him in his campaign. I was home latish to bed at a reasonable time. The conservatory decorator came this morning and completed the task of doing the posts. My Ohgon is looking poorer by the day. He is right eye is swollen like a balloon and I fear for him.
