The Gulf Land War lad offensive begins as the UN Security Council talks are abandoned. The Allies advanced across Southern Iraq to encircle Kuwait and meet up with marine forces around Kuwait City. My day was spent on the computer starting to update my financial income and investment summaries
The very late night left me feeling very tired this morning, but I was up and dressed for the traditional fried breakfast. I was also depressed as well as tired because the Allied land offensive had began as I went to bed last night. A United Nations meeting of the Security Council to try and reconcile the US and Soviet positions was abandoned after quarter of an hour when told that the land offensive had begun and then a complete news black-out followed as the Allies advanced across Southern Iraq to encircle Kuwait and meet up with marine forces around Kuwait City. This was really to hide the nastier side of the war as the tactics are well known.

The Arab coalition forces were given the task of advancing northwards through Kuwait, the Britains armoured tank columns were to the west of them, in Iraq, and then the main US forces were in the major en-circling movement combined with a parachute assault on the outskirts of Kuwait city. I found this all very sickening as Iraq could have been out of Kuwait under the Soviet peace plan within three weeks anyway and now there is even further loss of life. The problem will be to prise the Iraqis out of the towns and oil installations and to do so without severe casualties and damage to these areas. I worked on my computer this morning, sorting out and starting to update my financial income and investment summaries which had to be revised for the end of the tax year. This afternoon, I took a rest and watched some very good competitive football on the television. I found out what was wrong with the television connections in the lounge and so we were enjoying the set again. I got to bed this evening at a more reasonable time after doing some more of my financial work but then made sure I got to bed at a reasonable time again.
