Sam slept through again, leaving a completely clean kennel and run and doing his morning's business on the check cord to order which was real progress. He got a bit more anxious before meal times and so I increased his food again. He was very good in the car and with Diana, keeping broadly to command once past his initial excitement. For the second day he retrieved the dummy in the alleyway where he could not get past me even if he wanted to. I went through my morning routine then stained one side of the three large internal doors in Harnser before leaving for Norwich with Sam in the back of the Range Rover. I met up with Di in B.&.Q. and we selected the vinyl for the kitchen and the underlay and other materials to lay the rest of the carpet in the bathroom.

Then back to Horning via Wroxham where we had a meal in the cafe as an early lunch and chance to have a rest. Diana was delighted with the decoration and was very pleased with her choice of carpet and wallpaper. She is now dying to get into the kitchen once it is papered. We unloaded the cars and then she stayed long enough for a chat and cup of tea before leaving for the home journey. It turned out to be a very nice day, the morning mist clearing later to let in the sunshine but it turned cold and frosty again this evening and I gave Sam a clean bedding mattress to help keep him warm. Shot one duck with my air rifle but lost it in the dyke. Plenty of goose calling around but no word from Alan yet. I did get a telephone call from Steven this evening who is well and wanting to borrow the Rolls Royce to take Mary out for a Christmas occasion. Terribly sad news today from Buckingham Palace.
