After a dog walk for me and a shopping trip for Diana, we welcomed Sam and Francis Weller and their family visit us at the old Heronshaw and new Harnser before taking them for a river trip in The Paxton Princess and across the river in The Jolly for drinks at The Swan.
I had stayed up late last night and then slept in this morning so it was only when Sam had started wailing plaintively that I stirred and got up to feed and exercise him. I concentrated on obedience work with him on both of his walks today and he was quite good. Diana was off shopping at her new Tesco's supermarket she has found in Blue Boar Lane, Spixworth and I did some more work clearing up the garden, boat-house and shed.

I broke off at 11.00am and watched an hour’s test cricket and wished I hadn't as England experienced further batting collapse and seemed set to lose yet another test match. Over to The Horning Tea Shoppe for lunch when Diana got back and then a little time to finish preparing for our visitors. It must have been five to eight years since we had briefly seen "Sam" Weller with his new wife Francis and small children and, even then, we had not really managed to remember old times because of his divorce from Celia and the presence of his new wife who would have felt threatened had we talked about it.
I had been sad to lose touch with him as a friend and was pleased when Diana bumped into him in Norwich, and we arranged the visit afterwards. He has not changed a bit and his latest scheme is to fit out an old railway station as a museum. This is quite a job in addition to his being self-employed in the "house-magazine" publishing business. We had a nice time showing them round the old Heronshaw, new Harnser and then taking them on a river trip in The Paxton Princess; taking them along Horning river front and then back via Hoveton Little Broad. T
ea at home and then, after I had taken Sam's namesake for a walk, we took them across in The Jolly for drinks at The Swan whilst the children played a fine game together at home in our absence. At last, they had to go, but this time we arranged for some further opportunities to meet over the holiday and plan to keep in touch. A more restful evening and then to bed a bit earlier than yesterday, pleased at the day's events. It was much cloudier and cooler today but at least the rain stayed away for our guests. A call from Nigel this evening who is now back from his holiday in Spain and I will see him during my week back at home.
